New guy checking in

I've been lurking here for a few weeks now. In another life I once owned a S/S GMT and an 18K Day-Date. Having been without a watch for more than 15 years, I bought a Fortis. A nice watch but it never took the place of what I once had. I am going to be in the market for a Rolex in the next 4 months.

It's been years since I followed these legendary time pieces. I was stunned to see the proliferation of fakes. Back when I had mine, EVERY fake was a quartz movement so the fakes were easy to detect. Now with the Chinese and eBay, it's scary out there.

I was quite surprised to see the passion that everyone here shares for their Rolexes. I look forward to picking your brains for help and info!

Welcome to TRF, Allan!

What model Rolex are you looking for?

And you're welcome to pick my brain, but please don't pick the last straw of hair I have!

Thank guys!

I really enjoy the forum...the knowledge and passion here is fantastic!

I am leaning toward an Explorer with a White Face, a SD or a ClownMaster...I love that name....cracks me up every time.

I am leaning toward pre-owned. When my dad and I bought our first Rolexes back in the mid 80's..they were expensive..but after I came back and saw the current MSRP...I was floored...5K for a Sub...I think my pop paid $1,600 for his from an AD...an no discount. The difference seems greater in today's dollars.
