Hi, old lurker, new member here,

I got my 1680 back from service a while back and forgot to test the bezel. I have always had a hard time turning it ever since I got it from my brother.

I can turn it about one quarter clockwise, then it is just not possible to turn it anymore. I can only turn it about 5mins counter clockwise until it is stop.

1. Should it be unidirectional or bidirectional?
2. Should it click?

What could be wrong?

I could pop the bezel off and have a look, but I might as well take it back to the Rolex Service I used and ask them to fix it. I had it in for an overhaul for the first time ever. Would/should they have fixed the bezel too then?

1680's were bi-directional and you need to take the bezel off and see if it is warped or bent by laying it on a glass or formica counter top if it rocks it bent then try to figure out how to make it flat again by carefully bending it till it lays flat then carefully install it back on watch and hope it works. I did take the bezel off and it was/is slightly bent. I tried to bend it back into shape, and it is better now(it turns all the way round and only small pieces of flesh are ripped out of my fingers when turning it...), but I get the feeling that it gets bent when mounting it.

I noticed there is some sort of spring under the bezel in the form of a warped thin metal ring, is it also acting as a bearing?

Maybe I need to take notice were there is an upward warp is start mounting the bezel from that point.

Update: I took it to the Rolex Service today and they are going to fix it in a couple of days, it should have been included in the service. Apparently the spring was worn and it needed some lubrication.

Is your RSC in Stockholm ?

Yes, I have used them before and never really had a problem. But it did surprise me that they apparently never even tried to turn the bezel, must have been overloaded with work.

But I took the chance to try a smurfmariner which they had on display, I really liked it! :-)

is the bezel on the 1680 a push/depress-then turn? called the auto lock. or was that an earlier model?

I believe so, that is at least the only way of turning the bezel on my watch.

The bezel spring underneath is just a tension ring to keep the bezel from just freely spinning around the dial it has nothing to do with it's actual placement on the crystal bezel. All bezels should be lubricated prior to installation. Rikki

I have been having problems replacing tension spring. I think I'll try your advice and lubricate the bezel. First it was too tight by a watch maker and no it's way too loose - any help besides lube?

Talk about resurrecting an old thread....... but, what kind/type of lube should be used? I have the same issue.
