would a SS back from a 1601 fit on a 1803?

I am aware that the datejust and Presidential of the same vintages are different watches, besides the main difference that one is stainless steel and the other is gold. My understanding is that the 1803 is a hair thicker than the 1601 because of the different movements that they contain.

Out of interest are the case backs interchangeable where a stainless steel back from a 1601 would fit onto the gold model or do they use different tappered threads?
