Patek Bundling

What is the difficulty level of obtaining a 5740 at a new AD?

Would it be remotely possible to try to bundle a 5740 and 5811 or 5712 together?

You have a better chance of running into a Flying Unicorn that farts rainbow than getting a bundle of 5740 and 5811/5712.

Wait what? You know how bundling works right? You're supposed to take one watch that doesn't sell to go along with your hard to get watch. Not ask for a hard to get watch and then ask for an even harder to get watch lol.

If this is a serious question, then the answer is that you are talking about three of their most in demand timepieces.

Offering to buy them together will not increase your chances to get them, but only lower them even further, if that is possible.

Unless you are the owner of the boutique, chances are near to zero that you get two of these watches today.

I think if you were willing to buy a 5990/1A as well you are good to go I would say.

Okay, so the question was not realistic and the flying unicorn was a good laugh but it does point up the difficulty Patek customers and potential customers have in actually buying their watches and understanding the AD’s distribution selection policies for items in high demand and limited supply.

I bought my first PP a few years ago by just walking in, seeing the perpetual calendar and buying it there and then. Once tasted, like they say of heroin, hard to resist the next one an on it went … I wasn’t asking for a Nautilus or Aquanaut. When I did I was added to the list and was offered one some months later.

My take away from this is that you need to be a good customer and not go straight in there asking for the most sought after pieces or you might just get the flatulence referred to above. Fortunately they (SS N’s and A’s) were not even up on my radar.

When ADs bundle watches they are meaning buy items not in demand in order to get something that is in demand also. They dont bundle 3 watches that are all in demand or everyone would be doing it!

I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt, but come on...the OP has over 100 posts and is not really new to this forum. It's impossible to not know the state of watch sales be it Patek, Rolex, AP, etc. The post was more likely a troll post than anything.

If the guy just joined the forum and this was his first post, then maybe...but this guy has been on this forum for 9 years.

As amusing as this post is, it is kinda strange how much the watch world has changed over the last decade ... my first Patek from an AD in 2016 was a 5711/1A-010 and my first Rolex from the same AD was a SS Daytona (2014). I whilst there was a wait of about 12 months for each the AD came through. I've probably bought a dozen other pieces since so I guess with this AD at least they are interested in long term relationships as they've been in the same location for well over 100 years.

Imagine going into an AD now and asking for those as your first pieces!

I was at dinner the other night with my former AD talking about the watch business these days. Many years ago they recalled having a 5712 sitting around for a long time and working a 3-5% discount to get it out of the case.

The current situation is good for those with existing relationships and terrible for anyone coming into the market.

Couple that with the price increases over the years and it makes it fairly difficult for a young collector starting out. You’d need a lot more money to get started.

It will be interesting to see how things develop in the future.

that's not how bundling works. You take a pig in hopes they bundle it with a model

At that point, it'd be easier to just buy the AD.
