Comparison - Rolex Sub vs 2018 Omega Seamaster

Hey guys and gals,

Well this is probably not the wisest place to post this, being a Rolex forum , however I thought you guys might appreciate a little comparison I put together of the ever faithful 116610LN and the new Omega Seamaster 300m.
Both are cracking watches, and you cant go wrong either way, with Omega putting out one hell of a watch in the SMP.

If you are a fan of macro images, and would like to see some crispy macro footage of this stunner, check out the video below.

Enjoy.

Great review. IMHO a better comparison would be the Sub with this latest 300 reference. I have both and although I prefer my sub, I think this is the first Omega that's really given it a run for the money. And a lot less money lol!

I agree, Adam, I never quite understand the comparisons of a 4K watch to an 8K watch that don't include frequent mention of the price differences. I think the SeaMaster 300 is a worthy opponent though, and at least closer in price. Omega pushes Rolex, but you have to get into the upper models.

Excellent review, among the best I have seen actually. I always say a used SeaMaster is the best Swiss watch value on the market, if you don't have to have the letters R-O-L-E-X on your timepiece there is nothing better for the money. I just can't figure out why they don't lose the helium valve? This will prevent me from purchasing one. The 300 is my next watch though!

Comparison

ROLEX at all times... I even sleep with my 116610LN on my wrist. I loved my old '78 3075 Rootbeer, but don't miss trading it in on my new Sub. If I don't have it on, my Iwatch takes its place, but only for a few hours. Ha ha,

Nice video for the best buy, mate. IMHO the Submarine Date is clearly the better watch. Omega makes good watches however it is clearly evident that their Seamaster Design History is rather inconsistent and all for the place seeking to catch the Submariner Date. Although the 300M is a good watch with its own following but the watch is not as good as the Submariner Date. The helium escape valve and crown are heidious and a gimmick that does not work. The so-called waves are back dial creates a dial that is way too busy. The scalloped edges on the bezel are great for desk diving but even that will be difficult with wet hands! I wonder why Omega still is using them - do you have any idea why Omega refuses to give up on these two ill thought out features? The Submariner Date remains the ultimate dive watch. It is iconic because Rolex adheres to Michelangelo's priniciples: Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. The Rolex design compliments function while Omega's design caters to the whims of fashion. The 300M is okay but the Submariner Date is classic both in function and in design. The Omega 300M is initially a best buy but in no way is the better watch. With respect to the long run, however, Rolex will again prevail because of it's re-sale value will increase while the value of the 300M will depreciate - too bad because the 300M is a nice watch. Meanwhile the Submariner's features are classic and second to none and the next Submariner Date will be even better than this generation of Submariners. The Submariner Date is still the Champion Dive Watch!

Thanks for the video.

Tim Mosso did a similar review only he compared the Omega to the SD43. I never understood why Omega needed a helium escape valve on a 300 meter diver

Great video comparison.. Excellent!
I just love the Sub but it is not easy to get. Having 300M at the moment is great, i love it. It is just when the minute hand moved to 30mins position I cannot even see the date on it LOL.
