Icon7 BMW | M6 Back! - New Motor Installed - Break-In Underway!

Breaking in the New Motor!
Picked Up my car yesterday. My 2014 M6 had 21,746 miles on it when the motor was replaced.

Things done this time while at the dealer:
* Car received a Complete New Motor
* New Trunk Shocks
* New Power Steering Pump

I still need to get clear confirmation from BMW if the New Motor comes with a Warranty.
It seems unlikely that they would not provide the customer a warranty on a New Motor but I want clarification in writing.

Thank You to Everyone Who Responded to my Previous Posts, Your Input Helped Me understand the Situation and Get a Favorable Resolution!!!

Congratulation on getting it back. Keep us posted on the break-in period and what you find out on the warranty on the new motor.

Awesome! Enjoy the process, Larry! Good on you for wanting warranty confirmation in writing! It would seem strange for a brand new engine to have zero coverage but definitely get the terms made clear in writing.

Icon19 Update....

The Motor is purring and I can tell it is going to have more horse power that the previous one. Taking it easy and breaking her in right!

Got word back from BMW on the Warranty...

"Because you didn't pay for anything out of pocket and BMW covered all the work there is NO Warranty except for the warranty that the vehicle still has, So the CPO coverage will cover that and mechanical breakdown will cover that so that's the coverage that you still have on the engine. If you had paid for it you would have a two year unlimited warranty."

I'm Really Lucky the engine went out while under my original warranty!

Congrats! Did they figure out what happened/root cause of the previous motor?

Fantastic of BMW to replace rather than repair. Sounds far easier, though. Wonder if the old engine will be thrown into the shredder. Keep questionable parts off the secondary market.

Enjoy the "new" car!

In the early 1990s I was helping out in a friend's foreign car shop. A similar box sat for a few days, unmolested. Finally, I asked. It is a new engine from Mercedes. $15,000 (or maybe it was $13,000, for the engine and its installation?). The (car owner) bought the automobile new and drove it four years without changing or checking the oil. It took four years and 60,000 miles to fry the old engine.

I still think this is crazy. If your CPO is longer than 2 years I would totally understand why they would not give you an extra warranty. But if it is not they should definitely cover the new engine for 2 years imo.

BMW has been the BEST car manufacturer i've ever dealt with. It's also why i traded the POS Bentley for a BMW. FYI Bentley is the #1 worst company to deal with imho and that of many others. The VW Group are Absolute Frauds for not recalling widely know manufacturing defects and repairing their $5,000 to $17,000 mistakes.

BMW treats their customers right!

A turbo fan spun into a casing and the metal caused scoring in multiple cylinders.

I agree that they should provide at least something on the new engine if nothing else to stand behind the BMW Product. I have 9 months left on my warranty so if something is going to go wrong I hope it happens over that period.

I was skeptical the at they would do the right thing and replace it. They did and have a lot of respect for BMW for that.
