Just picked up a brand new Submariner Date from Wempe- Crown question
Had the watch about a week now and its been keeping perfect time to the second. No + or - since it was set. This is quite impressive.
I do wind it a couple of times if I dont wear it for a day and noticed a weird issue. When I unscrew the crown, sometimes I can turn it counter-clockwise forever and it wont pop out fully. Once I turn it clockwise, it will pop out after half a turn. This doesnt happen all the time, sometimes it will pop out with from counter clockwise turning. Is this just how the watch works sometimes or is it a defect? |

Does sound like an issue. Also if you don't wear it for only a day I wouldn't wind the movement. It still has plenty of reserve left

It’s normal, no worries. My Submariner does the same thing and has done it for years.

I doubt it was full reserve from when the dealer set it. |

Not a defect. That’s how it is 9/10 times for me as well. And that’s fine.

Normal. I find I need to turn it out about 2 full turns before it pops out to position 1, then I move it forward a 1/4-1/2 turn and it then pops out to the winding position

Normal. I'd say be patient and wait until it pops. Don't force it and the watch will be fine. Welcome to TRF.

The crown mechanism is a spring-loaded, upside down socket and wrench.
When the crown (wrench) is turned, and released, it still needs to align with and engage the socket (soldered to the bottom) to function. Sometimes it can be fiddly. (Yes, that is an engineering term )

My BLRO is the same way. Matter of fact, I can't recall a single Rolex I've owned where I didn't have to turn the crown clockwise just a tag for it to pop out fully so it could be wound.
Completely normal. |

Same thing with my Sub 114060, Explorer 214270, and my wife's OP 31 mm.
