Like you stated sometimes things get lost in text that would be fully understood eye to eye. Also language barriers sometimes make it difficult as english is my third language. But I do the best that I can,and try to explain what I meant if missunderstood. But I think we both can agree that this forum is big enough for everyone. The ones that like to discuss subjects from "back when" and others that like current "The Hype/Investments/Values" I do not (or at least try not to) pop in threads that do not interest me and voice my opinion how dumb they are. At the end of the day we all on this forum like the same things, but for different reasons maybe |

All I can say some people have way too much money if they are okay with spending $50,000 plus on this watch.

Yeah, with the exception that by the time we hit that age, the hype will have shifted to something else. I don’t say all of this is a bubble, but when you look over the mega long term (I’m 35 years away from the age I’d consider retirement), things will inevitably change. Either the “profit” will get eaten up by inflation or the prices will come down. 3 years ago the same hype had befallen vintage Daytonas, and look at them now. None of this is forever.
I think if you really want to put energy into something, don’t try to get a stupid watch that’ll make you even 80,000 $ in upside and instead, get your life to a place where you can afford not to care about these things. Your happiness and how you cater to your needs should really not rest on your ability to make 80,000 $ on the back of that one hype watch you got lucky with (or on the 2 or three). As it shouldn’t rely on other windfall revenues and nice to haves. Seriously, in the time the Daytona appreciated from 18,000 $ to whatever it is now, I for one have arranged my professional life in a way where it would be easier for me to afford it at grey prices now than it was for me at the lower values back then. Better to invest into yourself and proper investment assets, rather than spend your time glued to Chrono24 for something that might sound like a big number by itself, but that won’t get you anywhere in the way of sustaining your existence over any reasonable period of time or realizing anything else that would be noteworthy. Sorry for that JacksonStone, I did not mean to lessen your excitement in any way with that, in fact it’s quite adorable.

Look at this little mini JacksonRain Rabbit with his adorable posts about market prices and copycat threads re JayZ and Tiffany dials - I would pinch your cheeks and kiss you on your cranial if you were here. One thing to remember, you do not know what people have or what they don't have just by looking at keystrokes on the internet... You cannot measure or gauge their finances or how they have situated themselves financially and professionally. Respectfully, the mere fact that you submitted that post with that sort of rhetoric makes it clear for everyone with any sense on this forum that you have a lot of living and learning left in your life, my dear. |

Does anybody here believe in free markets? Or basic Keynesian concepts like supply-and-demand (even if you eschew other of Keynes's positions)?? It sounds instead like TRF has become a den of resentful socialists to me. If the market economy says the Panda is worth $50K, that's exactly what it's worth.

$50K just hits different when knowing that it retails for $13-$14K... The market is just crazy in EVERYTHING not just watches.

Wasn’t disagreeing on the fact that much better watches in terms of their mere metal and workmanship may be available at those prices, and wouldn’t spend the money on a Daytona either. In fact, I didn’t buy it even when it was offered to me at list. But then again I don’t think we should second guess the motives of the people who feel this thing is worth 50k to them or however much they are willing to pay. They were mature enough to get that money they’re mature enough to spend it. If they see a reason to make that expenditure, there’s probably something in the watches’ soft factors like image, braggability, aesthetics, whatever, that’s worth it to them. No need for anyone to be resentful about that.

6263s are going for 100k. Is it worth it? Things are worth what market says they are worth.
