Rolex Price Crash ? No I didn't think so

Hi TRF,

Just interested if any person on the forum has taken a big hit with a recent Rolex sale? not interested in Greys at all. Just private citizens.

Some threads/comments on this forum and YouTube are constantly talking the market down and into a panic, I'm just interested what the reality is?

I cannot see any evidence of panic or fire sales, what is your experience so far.

Grey market pricing appears to be fairly steady from what I can see, back end offers however are much lower as per some other threads of people being offered sub 14k £ for 116500 Daytona & I have friends with quotes within the last 30 days from WF offering only 1k above rrp on the hot 126710 references where as a few months ago it was 2-4k above rrp.

Only if you have to sell in this climate - otherwise stand firm, wear the watches and enjoy them for the reason you purchased unless it was to flip of course

I'm sure if there were panic or fire sales, we'd have 10 threads in one day about it, so you'll be well aware should it ever happen

I would bet 75% of the members who post here on TRF have six figure salaries with substantial savings. You just have to read various posts to see that. People such as this are really not financially affected by the virus. They start at really wealthy and drop to wealthy. For these people, this virus will be a buying opportunity. Prices will not drop much at all.

100% that there are much lower prices.
I have just bought a truly like new in box 16710 (2005 complete set) for £6,500.
The buyer paid £9,000 for it 18 months ago, he contacted the usual UK greys, three said they weren't buying, one offered £5k.
I am a well known collector of 16710's (I currently own 7), the owner contacted me, I told him that he would get more than the current £5k offer, he did not want t risk eBay, he said that he'd be happy with £6k (that would buy him a month or two of time), I did not know the watch in person (I knew the seller as a goo guy), so I said that I'd pay £6.5, I've let him know that he can buy the watch back at the same price at Nytime on the future.
Yes, prices have changed, I am certain that this is just the beginning.
Stay safe everyone

Perhaps we might see some people selling during times of hardship although the info will almost be impossible to get. I don't know how many members who are dealing with tough
things in their lives would be willing to say "yeah, I lost this much on my favorite watch if
they even decide to share that much. On the other hand, we could imagine some 2nd sale
of watches are due to this very thing. I personally won't be selling anything and I don't see no one I know having to sell pieces, but again, that's the kind of thing people don't usually inquire on or discuss in my country. Let me ask you this, if you had to sell a watch due to some hardship, would you post about it? I surely wouldn't because I probably would be
awfully upset and trying to keep my other needs in order. With the above said, I see some non-hot pieces starting to trend lower and I think it speaks to where the mindset people interested in trading out to get a better piece or maybe just freeing up some cash if things don't improve quickly. We can't and won't know for sure until the dust settles and possibly into next year, the effects will still linger. Right now is probably too early to get a clue or observation on the people who have prepared for a bit of turmoil for lack of a better term. Too many people aren't prepared...that's for sure.

I think prices are still solid. However, it doesn't stop people from making ridiculous lowball offers.

I've been idly watching the value of BLNRs from secondary sellers, just because it's fun to see what my watch sells for. Right now, DSW has an unworn jubilee BLNR for $13.4. While that's still well over MSRP, it's also $1500 less than he was asking two months ago. I've noticed other prices dipping as well.

Are Rolexes going to plummet in value? Doubtful. Are prices softening? Clearly, they are.

Don’t agree with this at all. Have six figure+ salary and lost more than six figures in the equities market/401k. Many of my friends are the same. When you lose more than $100k in a span of a month, you are less inclined to purchase luxury items unless you are $5m+ net worth, and that % is much much lower.

I still think we're at the very, very beginning of the troubles. The hard fact is that a lot of the small business out there don't have the reserves to survive this shutdown, and may never come back after some of the restrictions are lifted. Do you really think in a month people are going to be able to sit down in a crowded theatre or sports stadium? What about the casinos? What about restaurants? Now ripple that out to the employees, the rent those employees can't pay, the things they can't buy now, etc. etc. etc. The hard days aren't even here yet.

I hate being negative like this, but I have to be realistic in order to get my mindset right and prepare as best as I can.

This is a very good price, but in these times a fair price. And a fair offer for you to allow him to buy back for the same price when he gets his affairs in order and this terrible crisis is over. Many thanks to good people like you sir. Stay safe and congrats !

You're post is right, been telling people it'll take two months to start seeing maybe a mere 30% of the iceberg. On the other hand, will be glad value and price topics will tank on TRF.

Turn down value topics, turn up the watch fun, tech, innovation chat.
