Buying and owning an air cooled Porsche 911

Besides watches cars are my passion... especially classic cars. A lot of Porsche fans in the TRF who love Porsches so I thought this could interest you. I wrote this after 7 months of ownership.

I learned something new about the 993 that I didn't know before and I also appreciated the personal insight and observations. Congratulations on buying the last of the air-cooled and please enjoy some spirited drives in it!

Similar to vintage Rolex, I don't think the long term demand for classic air-cooled will ever dry up.

I agree 100%. My interest in Rolex dried up after the 5-digits. Not that I don't acknowledge that the new ones are better watches... I just like the old shape more.

Cool read thank you for putting it together. Very nearly bought a 993C2s in 2009 but couldn’t get the deal done. Should of stumped up the extra money but thought playing hard ball would win. Dealer didnt agree. Still regret it to this day.

Yeah. I wish I could afford the S model myself. In my opinion it's the most beautiful Porsche ever made. Those good widebody examples are way out of reach now.

This lower mileage example was sold for over 200.000 dollars. That's just nuts.

Yeah the wide body makes the 993 looks extra purposeful. Still you car is a beaut and the interior is super clean. I know you want to keep it standard but would you consider the S alloys?

Yeah I could consider them but I'm not sure if they look better than the Cup 2:s.

They look great though. Those are the only wheels I could even consider. I've also seen other wheels on a grey 993 that looked really good but I'm not sure if they'd look good on a blue car. I believe these are new Boxter/Cayman wheels and they're '18.

For me if I did change the alloys it would only be for the S/Turbo versions. I remember reading the Autocar first test of the 993 Turbo and dreaming one day I want that car. Realistically it would now need a lottery win.

When I was young boy, I remember this ad. It was just brutal, just like the 993 Turbo.

Back then Porsche was on top of their game in every way, including advertising.

That’s a beaut. The Autocar test car was Arena Red like that. Look at the rear wing, an area of outstanding beauty. For me a dream to drive one to the Le Mans Classic, the French toll roads are super smooth and no police.

Nice job, Juho. I had a 964, 993, 996, 997 and 991 in that order. I miss the 964 the most, although the slowest by far, it had the most character.

I love 964.

For me it was either 993 or 964 (whichever good example came first).

I will eventually buy one too, to keep my 993 some company.
