Hey guys, I think there was a problem with my Message. First of Thanks to all the kindness in the group I really appreciate it. I wanted to tell you guys that I am 18 years old and made some money in the financial markets. Especially in Crypto and Forex. Now that the markets are boring I somehow noticed that I have a passion for watches and even own one Omega Seamaster, which I inherited from my Dad who passed away. I would like to know how I can seek knowledge about watches and how do I do it? Should I buy some books, or buy courses? What do you guys recommend?

My friendly advice would be to hang around here a little. Lots of knowledgeable TRF members. Just stay away from the WRUW threads where members post pics of their watches. That can lead your wallet astray rather quickly! Trust me, I know….

Sorry for your loss, OP.
As others said, hang out here for a bit. Plenty of knowledge on here. Also, take in some content on YouTube. Lot's of good watch channels. Many suck too. Find ones that speak to you and what you are looking for. Figure out your style and what fits in your life. Example, I bought a Reverso. Love the watch but didn't fit in my style most days and barely wore it. Ended up selling it. Loving a piece isn't enough. It should fit in your life as well, if that makes sense. Once you figure that out, research the heck out of them. That will narrow your focus on pieces that interest you. |

IMHO, a true watch enthusiast can appreciate offerings from many different brands where prices vary greatly. I enjoy my $75 Casioak g shock as much as my Rolex Sub. If interested, frequent the Seiko/Grand Seiko forum to learn of those brands. $10k would get you a mighty fine collection!

I am trying to get into watches, but I have seen that I may require a lot of capital to do so and I only have roughly 10-11k put aside for watches.

Well thanks for your reply, I will look into it and try to gain as much knowledge as possible. Is there any watch you would recommend to me, which is unique and can be seen as an investment?

Why do you want to invest in watches?

After I inherited my dads Omega, I kind of noticed that I have a passion for them. I bought some automatic watches by Hugo Boss, which I thought would be an investment and even bought more with the money I made though trading. But now I noticed that it wasnt the smartest thing to do. Thats the reason I want to get more into those 'hight class' watches.
Thanks for your reply btw |

I’m not the wisest one to comment on this, so I’m sure others may chime in (that is, if they haven’t already tired of the notion of “investment watches”). There are many threads already that have covered this very topic the past few years. Search them out…
VERY few brands may increase in value, just as a given model within a brand may become desirable and sought after, for example. Watches are NOT considered an investment vehicle. Talk to your financial advisor instead of a forum of strangers. Don’t Google your question about “investment watches” because you and your wallet will quickly be led astray. It is pure dumb luck that my Rolex 116610Lv (Hulk) has increased in market value since its discontinuation. I bought it at a discount in 2017 when few people sought after them. The last few years have been an anomaly in the luxury watch market. Prices are stabilizing and dropping, even as I type this post. I hope you find a watch to wear and enjoy! But keep in mind, its main purpose is to “tell the time of day”. |

You’re getting into watches for all of the wrong reasons. Invest in mutual funds and buy a Seiko.

I have over 6 figures invested in the stock market and in crypto combined, even thinking about investing in Real Estate as soon as the market sees a correction. The 10k budget is just for fun and I will not regret loosing it. I just want to learn something new and this new hobby of mine turns out to be watches. I also noticed that watches give instant status and are also perfect conversation creators, which I have noticed myself a few times.

Just buy what you like and enjoy them. When you change your mind, sell or trade. That’s the fun in the hobby. To think something you own makes you a more desirable person only indicates you’re hangin out with the wrong people. Life’s too short for that nonsense.
