Complete honesty.

Bought in March 22. At the absolute peak. Paid around 1.7 x MSRP, but have been after this watch for a few years. Don't care about future value as it'll stay with me forever.

I picked up both my 116710LN & black 116520 from 2 reputable Grey’s here on TRF. My 126610 Sub date was purchased from a local AD.

i bought a blnr for £11k grey and it’s nearly dropped back to that price. It will be £10k the way things are going soon. I would love to buy retail but tried and never got one.

Told them I needed a couple days and would likely be back for the Milgaus.

Got home and thought, what is the downside of going to the Rolex Boutique in the mall. Went to the Mall and introduced myself and said I was looking for a Sub for my birthday. They called me a week later and said they had someone cancel and I got the new Sub I really wanted for MSRP. Super happy I didn’t buy the first watch I looked at.

Way to go!!

I paid around £45,000 for my 2019 126715CHNR rootbeer back in feb/march. It is what it is I don’t intend to sell it although I do check the prices here and there every so often to feel a bit of pain.

I have sold all my rolex before, during and just pass the peak already,
and the money change to become 3 PP, 1 VC and 1 omega now
all the PP and VC are buy from AD/BT at MSRP and a 2nd hand omega at discount

I think I am lucky and I am waiting to buy one more rolex again, maybe from AD or second hand,
not yet know up to this moment

Someone is buying them…. https://www.rolexforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28

Most are low post count members that find there way here, I say kudos to them for buying. They are enjoying their watches instead of posting here, it would make padi proud.

You’re right. A lot of inquiries are from 0 post members.

Bought all mine from AD and sold at market price. Paid for the diamond and my student loans

This was not an intention but prices got to be so silly and illlogical that it was the only way… to get rid of them

As much as I love the watches you sold, I frankly agree with you it made no sense to keep any Nautilus at the peak of the market. The intrinsic value to the then sell price was just not there at the peak. And as expected, the watches can be replaced now at much lower values. It boils down to this, if someone wants to pay me 220K for a watch I bought for 22K, I think it is only right they should have the watch.

I actually lucked out despite my crappy life back in Feb..was on a waitlist for green bezel sub....got the call from AD in 6 months..my work was on a strike so zero income. I still wanted it...got it on my credit card....strike continued for 2 months...I ended up selling it (I did wear it 24x7 for some weeks). Paid off the CC and used the rest to pay off my wife's credit cards and supplement the savings. Best move I ever did.

BobsWatches overnight me $25k!!! Now its not even fetching $12k in grey market (for trade value).

PS: this was back in April before the market crashed.

No, MSRP only since 2017, aside from 116600 (SD4k), and 16610LV- both discontinued. Both pieces were bought reasonable ($13k for SD4k, $7500 for 16610LV).

I’ve been fortunate, but also patient, and have waited 2-3 years for several pieces in order to get from AD for MSRP.

Top of the market for me on an Explorer II 216570 Black.. Bought in April 2022 from a grey. Currently down appx 1.5 - 2K

That being said. I don't regret it... I got what I wanted and have already emotionally forgotten about the loss.

I traded a Smurf, cermit, and 40 rg ym OF at the peak April/May. Gave those 3 for a 116509 Mayer and PN OF. All had premium now 3/5 don’t I’d say. I think msrp of the three are slightly more than my current 2. I guess it’s a wash and I justified it saying the 2 I got are more special than the 3 I gave

Very recently purchased the SD4K 116600 at approx 30% over original retail from 2013, but I bought it new with stickers at an auction. Worth it and still a better price than anything else I found online pre-owned.

Honesty thread... Did you buy at the peak of the market?

Only bought at the AD, fortunately. I contemplated selling my BRLO at peak of the market earlier this year. I enjoy them but they’re just watches to me, and if I can enjoy something for a couple of years and someone wants to pay 3x what I paid…the thought enters the mind.

Took a trip to Japan right as it reopened and USDJPY was at 145. Finally sold the BLRO to fund some watch shopping there given the exchange rate (and 10% tax refund) and used a bit less than 2/3 of the proceeds to pick up a preowned large Santos, B01 Navitimer and PAM111 in Japan. Was a no brainer for me. Much happier with those three than the BLRO.

Ok I’ll play

From 2019 to 2022 I’ve had probably close to 20 different Rolex’s in and out. Some via my AD and some Grey. Probably would take me a few hours to list all the in’s and outs but I’ll end on this. I’m down to only one that I didn’t get at Msrp which is my 116515. Paid over but also got over on what I traded. All in all I’m in the negative on it based on current pricing but I absolutely love it and it’s going nowhere!! Also my wife’s favorite.

All in all when I look at my entire collection and all I see is one that I’m “not in it right” I can live with it. Especially when it’s a watch I love and one I still haven’t been offered by my A D. Which kinda sucks given my spend history and time as a customer. Oh well.

I bought a 39mm mark I explorer for $10k at I think peak, but not exactly a super pricey watch. I am still love the watch and don’t mind the premium paid. Purchased from an AD that sold some preowned.

Honesty thread... Did you buy at the peak of the market?

I paid $26k for a 126710BLRO and $20k for a 126610LV. Both brand new with some stickers.

I also sold a BLNR for $20k and bought it for a little above retail in 2019. So, in my eyes that helped minimize the “unrealized loss”.

Do I regret it? I wanted these two watches for a very long time and plan to keep them forever. So, no I have no regret at all and would do it again. I’ve made a lot of memories with these pieces already and won’t plan to pass them down to my heirs.

What the MSRP-only folks don’t get is that they are paying gray one way or another. Whether it’s in other pieces/jewelry. Or, they are paying with time.

I truly believe that for these two pieces I would have paid far more had I played the AD games.

Paid 50k for 116500 white dial new with stickers
Same watch sells from the same TS for 36
In moda these sell for around 32, I’m guessing my TS would take 35

Doesn’t bother me a bit, I was never getting the call, and this 15k loss pales in comparison to the paper losses in my portfolio

Looking forward to paying way too much for a Patek in the future

No, bought 1 at 10% discount (wayyyy back in 2015) and 1 at MSRP from the AD.

I am doing well on both.
