Would have no issue buying a watch from someplace trusted or someone trusted (friend / relative) that got from an AD. I don’t ever look at the certificate or origin on my pieces—one with my name and the other someone else’s.

If the watch is still available in retail, I would try to find one without a name.
But for vintage/NOS/no longer retailled watched, I do not care.

Hell, I bought my 5235G second-hand last year, and the papers have the name of a Japanese buyer, and the stamp of a PP retailed in Tokyo.

If it's a friend's name, totally fine with it. In fact, given the circumstance, great sign of friendship.

Does it even matter when you can just register your name to the piece on Patek's owner website anyways? The way I understand it the piece will then be tied to your name and address in their system once you do this.

Been reading a lot about some of us who are picky about these sort of things but at Retail the trade off is maybe too good to pass up...

Curious to know where everyone stands!
Who would not buy something at X retail price when the market price is 3X at least? Even if you dont like to have someone else's name on the paper you can sell it immediately for a huge profit.

But passing up an opportunity to buy at mspr is silly.

I think it’s meaningless.
I just pulled two from my office. The 5026 shows my name and the 3940 has the name omitted. Both were purchased new from the same authorized dealer.

Pop the cork and enjoy the watch.

I actually had this discussion with a family member about this today regarding purchase of a retail complex in an established neighbourhood at 11 million, or a purchase directly from the developer at 2.5 million but at a satellite city an hour away. Would rather buy 4 in a row in a new development area and see how it goes over the next 10 years.
so you have no confidence in the market finding a price for any item..?

interesting - my wife bought a naked 4700J nautilus from the 80s, do we need an extract from the archives in order to do it or is the serial number enough to regsiter ?

In that case it is essentially a gift and the name on the papers should be irrelevant. It's the thought that counts.

I'm not sure but if you go to the Patek online website there is an owners page that asks for your information to register ownership. I believe they require the serial number.

I have seen PP watches being sold without the cert because the seller did not want to pass on their name and address to the buyer. This is in BH through the jewelry trade there, where celebs are willing to take the hit on the price and preserve privacy.
