Icon20 Waterman pens?

Hello TRF Members,

I'm going through a Mont-Blanc phase here right now. I've lost on two auctions on e-Bay. I'm looking at used Meisterstrucks without boxes, either Platinum or Gold (Black Resin), Generation MB's or Vintage MB's. My parents are getting me a gift for Christmas, and I want it to be a pen. I'm trying to keep it under $150. If I fail to purchase a Mont-Blanc before Christmas. I'm going to end up possibly buying a Waterman pen.

The Waterman pen I'm considering is a Hemisphere GT (Chrome). Could some people chime in on Waterman pens? I really do have the rest of my life to have a Mont-Blanc, it isn't a priority.

Thanks!

I have a Waterman roller ball -- I use it to fill out policies. I also have a bunch of Mont Blancs, like watches, they are fun to switch around.

I have a Waterman rollerball I bought about 15 years ago and it's a fantastic pen. But since rediscovering fountain pens...that's all I use now and carry two MBs everyday!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys! Waterman's sound like great pens. It is my final choice if the Mont-Blanc thing doesn't go well.

I have a fountain pen coming, I purchased a cheap one on e-Bay to just try out a fountain pen. I'm going to stick with the ball point version of the Hemisphere GT. Either in Glossy Black/Chrome, Matte Black/Chrome or Glossy Black/Gold plating.

Haha! I don't have any Rolex's!!! Well not yet. I'd love a Mont-Blanc anyday! It's just that in my price range they are used. And mostly auctions on e-Bay. And I don't do too well in the auctions! The Waterman Hemisphere is my backup for my 2011 Christmas Pen present.

Perhaps not a good way to come on here with my first post, but I have several MBs (including a Hemingway and other LE MBs) and IMHO my Waterman fountain pens write better.

I'll put on my flame suit now

If you want to find good writers, then all these modern LE editions will disappoint you. Go do some research on vintage German manufactures and you'll find the Soenneckens, Montblancs, Staedtlers and Osmia are the best writers of their era.
One day I'll fit a 14c flexi nib onto the Hemingway - best of both worlds

P.S. If you're into Watermans, try get one of those size 0 safety's. They are so tiny yet a fully functional pen!

I've got a Waterman Carene Rollerball which is pretty nice. However since getting my Mont Blanc Roller Ball I have not looked back once.

I have MB, Watermen, and Pelican. MB makes a great ball point and fountain pen; Waterman makes great BP, and decent fountain; Pelican, IMHO, makes the best FP and BP. For everyday use, you cannot beat the MB ball point pen. It simply is superb!

I too like the MB ball points and their roller ball models. Le Grand is my favorite roller ball, though I have a Waterman roller ball that I like very much.

2 careless, I find no difference writing wise between the LE FP s and the "regular" (e.g. 149) MB FP s. I'll check into those you've recommended. And thanks for the info!

Uh, dare I go into a discussion on cameras?

LOL

Vintage here means 1950s or earlier.
The modern 149s are just smooth wet writers. Seems to me they make 149s primarily as a signature pen nowadays...
If you want good writers out of modern pens, you need to send them to good nibmeisters for customization... But the resell value will be affected as it's not factory original anymore (for LE anyway).

Cameras... Bring it on! Not here in pen forum though.

I have a set of ~8 Waterman Expert ballpoint pens: yes they are heavy, but feel solid, no smearing, always ready to write, excellent selection of colors (I have black, dark brown, dark blue, French blue, oriental red, prussian green, copper, silver).

I find the Montblanc name and some of their styles a bit too flashy for my profession (I am already pushing it with the watch), and too lighweight feeling after years with Waterman Experts....although I really still want the 35981 (solitaire gold and black stripes).

If anyone has a slate blue expert ballpoint Waterman or any other odd color (I heard they made yellow) they want to sell, I am interested.

I like the way the pilot ultra fine gel refill works for me so I'm now using it in my Waterman and Montblanc.

My daily driver is a Waterman Carene. I own many pens, but this is the one I choose to carry around everyday and use.

I have and enjoy both MB and a Waterman Carene. I carry the MB because of its light weight, and use the Carenevas my office pen because of its heft.

Thumbs up on Waterman

I've got a bunch of MB's but my Waterman Roller Ball gets the most "finger time!"

Just like with watches, I find some variety to only add to the joy of using/wearing these fine tools.

My waterman carene is smoother than any of my Montblancs (I have three 149s and three 146s), but it leaks a little. Excellent pens, I'd say. I have lots of pens, as was said, it's nice to switch around.
