Can anyone ID this supposedly vintage Rolex?
Apologize for the poor photo, it's the best of the ones I got from the seller.
Claims it's a vintage Rolex and know nothing else about it. |

From the one very poor photograph looks to be a fake... lacks the finesse and quality of an authentic Rolex Cellini or Precision type watch...

Fist and foremost when you buy a Rolex.......buy the seller, and then buy the watch. Can the seller really not come-up with a better photo?? Of course he can. The one distant photo has been submitted because the watch is a fake.

I'm very new to collecting vintage Rolex, and still have much to learn. I do know, however, something is very hinky with that piece. You sense it, too, or you wouldn't have asked the question. Pass on it.

Thank you all for the sage and correct advice. Had a chance to look at the watch in person and definitely fake.
Am very new to this, but look and feel was very cheap and light. Then it got easy as the dial noted it to be a Rolex Geneve quartz with a Japanese movement. Some truth to the dial as popping the caseback off revealed a low end plastic quartz movement stamped "Made in Japan". |

Darn! Tough luck on that one. However, you are in the right place for learning more about Rolex. Thats history now, there is a better future if you like the brand. Hang in there, read some articles, keep up on the postings, check the 'Watch Out' section to see what not to, visit your local AD and used watch shops, look at 'em, and try 'em on! Then , when you are ready and confident - pursue your purchase. A great place to start that is in the TRF 'For Sale' section. These folks are great - but fact that doesn't waive your responsibility to do your homework. Welcome to the forum and best wishes in finding that first Rolex!
