Buying a Vintage Rolex Oyster DateJust

Hi I bought my first submariner and love it. Now Im looking at buying a vintage 1968 oyster perpetual datejust.

Is there a vintage buying guide on here or things to look out for?

I dont want to get ripped off and having only owned one Rolex I need help!
Thanks

Brandon

Always buy the seller!!! It needs to be either a 1601 or 1603 and the serial needs to be in the 2.4MM range. Open 6s and 9s on the calendar wheel, plexi and riveted or folded links bracelet.

There's one up for sale on the VRF. Here's the link. http://www.network54.com/Forum/20767...t+1601%2C+1603

Note: I am not related to the seller or know him.

Welcome, good starter pick on the Subbie!

Now, for that referenced DJ - it is ebay, you understand...a little looser than TRF for rules, etc. But, the watch looks generally OK (serial numbers are usually not given, but.....the Seller has given one). Further, Seller seems to have a good reputation with recent positive feedback from moving Rolex watches and Rolex bracelets. Keep in mind, its overseas, and it will be harder for you to deal with, or to return, if something goes sour on the deal - or if it gets 'lost' in transit, caught in customs, whatever. And it seems to be overpriced to me - its a head only with questionable, 'non-entity' strap, and a buckle. No paperwork, but recently maintained () Yeah? By who? That could be $500 worth of work. I see that he has sold similar in the past and has been willing to consider a lower offer on a $2,400 DJ.

Again, its your call, but if it were me, I'd spend a few more hours/days/weeks doing the homework, thinking about watches and monies, comparing prices, options, etc. Then, I'd look around for a domestic deal (bracelets and accessories from far abroad pose less risk only because they cost less - a $2+K watch - depending on your disposable $ - perhaps poses a higher risk). Again, its your call and your $, but there will always be a used DJ around somewhere! And there are usually some pretty good ones FS right here on TRF!!! Just one guy's opinion, you understand. Good Luck in finding the right one for you!
