I sold a 2014 Seamaster GMT to fund my new Rolex GMT2.. And I still miss that watch like a good old girlfriend that you let go. I wish I could keep them both.. Quality, time accuracy and depreciation wise the Rolex wins hands down but I still miss it =(

A guy from work has a Big Bang Ceramic and I have to confess that after having a good look at it... I found it to be not as ugly as I thought.

I'm a classic kind of guy: submariner, GMT2, navitimer, speedy professional and Portuguese and started thinking what is about the watch that I like... Probably the carbon fibre "bling"?

I love cars and one of my favourite previous cars was an AMG black series... Maybe that's why I like the watch.

I wouldn't buy one now, I'm searching for a limited edition Speedy, but could buy a second hand one but if I get it for a very good price.... Or I'd buy the omega Seamaster GMT again...

They are not badly made watches actually and some of the designs are quite appealing. However the negatives are that the BBs are very derivative, esp of the ROOs, they generally used an ETA, and so charged extortionate prices, and became too intertwined with fashion and celebrity sort of like a super expensive Gucci watch. They are working to change that but the old image still sticks alas.

if you like it buy it

people have different reasons to buy watches

it is true hublot is fashionable rather than horologically brilliant, but if you are buying it with fashion in mind, i cannot see what is wrong

a vintage patek with a beautiful movement is about as fashionable as a modern hublot is a good piece of horology

Classic Fusion chrono is not a bad looking watch. If you like it, don't let WIS nerds bully you out of getting one.

Hublot does make some designs I don't care for, but this one looks ok to me.

Wanted to know what you guys thought about Hublot?

I'm not a fan of some just repeating what others have said, basically brand bashing and being straight up disrespectful. They don't have some of the history of the other companies, true, but no need to call all Hublot owners rappers of gangsters. It's rude and disrespectful.

I'm contemplating my first Hublot purchase myself, and I'm looking at the Big Bang line. Their in house movements are very nice, and they have innovative technology.

Definitely not as an investment, unless you get a great price on the second hand market. Perhaps consider an AP Royal Oak or something with more history? When I think Hublot, prestige and class do not come to mind. Rather more along the lines of "has too much money and doesn't know what to spend it on"

Well on resale count 40% at best of the retail price, so yes not my best idea of an investment...

And as to why there is not alot of buyers.
A. Horrible resale value. And difficult to Resale even at discount
B. Short history. Started in 1980.
C. Until recently, no in house movements, which is a must for prestige level watch.
All these stated in previous comments.

Many prestige watches have not really used in house movements.

I like Hublot. Some of their Big Bang and King Power models are very cool. On the forum you'll see no shortage of people saying how horrible they are, but that's to be expected. People love to jump on the bandwagon.

Originally, i didnt like Hublot because it appears to be riding on the coat tails of the AP ROO designers, but on a tacky/overly bling'd out level - as one poster put it, Mayweather wears one.

I still find a lot of their watches are that way, but im coming around to one or two models.

As for the OP, buy the Hublot because you like it - not for investment - because like all watches, they wont hold their value.

That is a card reader. The warranty is on a smart chip enabled card. It also allows you to access the hublotista website.

Those who always worry about resale value and only buy what others buy don't have a mind of their own, in fact they might not be doing well financially.

If you can afford it and you like Hublot or Cartier or whatever, by all means go out and buy one. And for the full experience get it from an AD, not used or grey market.

There is a reason why luxury goods cost alot, because not everyone could afford it. So don't be stingy, live life, spend and make more.

Sure what a great comment ! Buy new to get the FULL experience- - that is for sure true. Don't even worry about resale! What a wise bit of advice! I mean really? Then go earn some more- yep you will have to cause you will always be broke! You forgot an important principle to add to your wisdom - be sure to finance your purchase to get the full enjoyment,Couldn't help but comment

My buddy bought one, and I disliked it even more in person. He seemed happy, so I didn't have the heart to tell him that, well...

Hated them, like hated.... but I personally find company history and ethos a huge draw to a watch purchase. I'm currently dating an AD and I've handled many now and they're not bad watches at all, and imo it's a brand that's here to stay, like her boss says it's the new Rolex for a new generation. I personally think people will be very surprised how Hublot fare in the long run. For me I wouldn't want one for ethos alone BUT not because of design or quality.

i don't think they are "bad" they are less than AP, not that there is anything inherently wrong with that. Its Hublot's insistence on being on the level of AP that turns so many off. The best analogy i can think of for Hublot is

Tudor:Rolex :: Hublot:AP.
All fine watches and each have their place, but each although similar are not on the same level. No one thinks Tudor is on a Rolex level and no one should think Hublot is on an AP level despite what Hublot tries to make people think.

Keep on dreaming. Most of the people who buy and own a Hublot, also own other expensive watches and very likely own a Rolex as well.

They aren't the Rolex for a new generation. I'm sure that quote works well on people interested in Hublots when they are at his store.

almost everyone i have seen or have known with a Hublot are not watch people to begin with. I tried to talk to a Hublot owner on an airplane once about his watch, he knew nothing about it or watches in general. Since the brand doesn't really appeal to the WIS crowd it also explains why so many of us are turned off by them. There are a lot of rolex owners like that as well but there are also many WIS Rolex fans too. Not a knock on Rolex at all, but they at least have the WIS following to legitimize the brand and keep it away from a fashion or "look at me" status type brand.

Thanks to Jean Claude Biver the brand has been on the leap and producing interesting products too. However, I am not fan of their styling

People always say resell value is much worse than other big brands, but I haven't found too many (except for very high end models) that sell secondhand for a discount steeper (relative to MSRP) than a lot of IWC models for example. What am I missing?
