Date Issue Audemars ROO Rubberclad
Hi everyone,
I’ve a ROO Rubberclad H-series for about almost 3 months now. I bought it 2nd hand with one year warranty on the movement. The watch was running perfect for the past 3 months, keeping the time very well and accurate! Unfortunately yesterday I did see that the date window was stuck between 10-11. I tried to quickset the date, it clicked but nothing happend. The date changed when I turned the crown ccw and then cw again. After that I tried to go through datewheel fully, the date changed but not smoothly, it was stuck a few times. Tried again carefully and it looked OK. Is this a common problem? I will be observing the watch tonight to check if the date jumps correctly.. Usually the date jumps at about 00.03-00.05 on my watch and not exactly at 00.01. |

I had a rubberclad, I think it was a G series. Never had a problem with it in any way. My experience with mechanical watches is that the date doesn’t ever change bang on midnight and always takes 1, 2 or 3 minutes to change.

Not usual at all, obviously, which suggests there may be an issue with the datewheel or associated date change components, if not just a lack of lubrication.
As you did what I would have suggested, and found it wasn’t a once off, then it sounds like it’s time to get it serviced or repaired. Presumably the warranty was with the reseller, and they’ll use their own independent watchmaker? If so, then you’ve a choice whether to accept that or look for a financial contribution towards having it done by AP’s local/regional service centre. On one hand, it could be a simple resolution, and done by someone more than capable, and therefore no cost to yourself – but it will only have 9 more months to run, whereas the APSC service/repair will provide you with 2 years service warranty. Only you know which provides the best option for you at present, and there’s nothing to say you can’t let them sort it, and see how it goes for the remainder of the warranty, before sending it to APSC thereafter for future peace of mind. |

Hi, I understand that it take 2-3 minutes, I just mentioned that. The watch runs great, timekeeping is still perfect. I’m just observing it too check if the datewheel will get stuck again. |

I’m just observing the watch ans see what happens, a jammed datewheel is not normal at all. I own also other AP ROO’s, one is at the servicecenter at the moment. The watch is there since 1 november and I still don’t have it. It takes up to 3-4 months here in Europe. Also, they always do a full service and that costs a lot of money. Is it better to observe the watch a few weeks and if it occurs again, send it to the reseller? AP is the last option I have, will cost at least 1500 Euro but it is 100% guaranteed.. |

Like others have mentioned, look into sending it to APSC.

Presumably, you’ve not tried to change the date during the changeover period? If so, then make them aware the fault hasn’t arisen through user error. See what they say/suggest, then take it from there. |

Nope, didn’t change the time or date for almost 6 weeks. It runned perfectly. Just happened suddenly, anyways the date changed the right way this night. I’m going to give it some more time, the reseller is 400km away and I don’t prefer shipping so.. let’s see what happens. |

Send to APSC. Not through your AD.
Can try going back to the seller you bought it from. I did have some issues with my Rubberclad several years ago maintaining a charge, sent to APSC and they did a complete overhaul under warranty. Never had an issue since. H serial as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Haha! I’m still waiting for my Elephant. AP replied that the aftersales section is going to check it out and come back at me. Anyways, sending to AP would cost me at least 1500-2000 EU, that’s the last option for me. The watch is under warranty of the seller but they have their own watchmaker. Look, it runs well but now there is this date problem. When changing it rapidly it clicks a little bit, is that normal? It worked OK this month after the first time but now it doesn’t change by itself, it gets stuck. I hope it a easy fix. Guess I’m going to send it to the seller first. |

That date change getting stuck is not normal. Send it back for the warranty man - a watch at this price should not have these problems.

I wouldnt send it to a watchmaker, likely going to cost you more in the long run. Just suck it up and send it to APSC.

Not sure why you think the service will cost as much as this. My RGRC had a similar date issue and the service was about £600, I also had a replacement rubber bezel and the TOTAL bill was about £1800. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’ve experienced that when I send my watch in, those guys always put a full service on the invoice, 1350 eur. No matter what, I guess I’ll try a other AP service center If I have to send it in. |

Send it to an actual APSC, not an approved one. 🤪

I wouldn't have anyone open up my AP's except AP themselves.

That's up to you to believe but I think it's inaccurate. I think the majority of AP owners would only have AP work on them. If you are buying from a gray dealer who has another shop open them up, I wouldn't buy one from them.
Up to you but my recommendation is to send to APSC. You can then get it an official clean bill of health and have documentation that AP serviced it for the future if you ever were to sell. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That’s what I mean. I will try to solve it with the seller first. If they can’t fix it correctly then I have to send it to AP. I still have warranty after all and I’ve paid the price for that. |

Due to the other thread you seem reluctant to send to APSC so see what your seller can do first.

Not so uncommon for this model.
