To insure or not to insure...

I've been quoted 270$+tx per year to insure my SubC date for full replacement value. I'm hesitating to insure it, or not. That is a very hefty price for only 1 watch... I always have my sub on my wrist, even when I go at the gym.

Talking about gym, I went there this afternoon and while riding the bike somebody started using the bike on my left and really started staring at my watch. At this moment I thought again hmmm maybe I should get it insured... I don't want to have to fight for a watch

I know that this has been talked about many many times here on TRF. What's your input on this? Keep in mind that I always have my watch on, while working, training, going out with friends, etc...

Thanks in advance

I got a quote for 252 for two watches; a BLNR and a Hulk. I thought it was pricey too, but I might do it. It would be better than jacking up my homeowner rates.

My insurance is so dirt cheap and covers so many options that I'd be fool not to take it.

I called my home insurance company the other day - think the quote was something like $450 for insured value up to $150K (which is certainly more than my watches are worth!). Didn't bite yet - but may. Full disclosure: where the watches are stored is a big factor in a premium (safe, type of safe etc,)

$250 for a piece of mind...less than $25 a month..that s peanut money. skip 1 Starbucks a week and you will be ahead, if you drop the watch, get mugged etc... $ 25 a month is nothing.
insure it and enjoy it. Someone point a knife or gun at you just give him the watch and go buy a new one.

Even though that is much higher than what I pay in the US, if you are considering it, do it!

FYI most insurance companies have minimum coverage they charge to protect valuables. With that said, $13/mo isn’t a lot to insure your watch. Assuming there’s no deductible, that is. Keep in mind you should be able to add items to your personal articles policy, the addition of those items will not be at the same rate as what you’re paying to protect tour watch. If you’re married, add you and your wife’s wedding bands, her other expensive jewelry, etc. what you’ll find is the per item cost of protection will go down.

Definitely expensive, but I'm unsure how it is in Canada. Adding my SubC as a rider to my homeowner's insurance only costs me $66/yr and no deductible.

You should absolutely insure it.

My Sub C is around $110 or so with J.M., and home owners quoted approx $2 per thousand (about $170). I agree it’s worth it for the peace of mind.

My info is based on US coverage. Looks like you’re in Canada. You should look into what your options are by getting quotes from 2-3 different companies. That way you’ll know if your quote is reasonable. Just know you get what you pay for. If you go with a cheap company, know they’re only cheaper because they don’t pay claims.

Think about it. You insure your car, right? What's your car worth and what are you paying per year? Now consider that your watch is around $10K. The question is: Why WOULDN'T you insure something that costs $10K and that's easier to lose/get stolen/robbed than a car?

I also vote to insure.

I have my BLNR insured through State Farm. $87/year, fully insured if broken, stolen or lost. Also, my agent told me this policy will increase in value each year as it appreciates. This was a no brainer to me. :)

Insure. For piece of mind at the minimum.

Or the general rule for insurance from watches to Helicopters is the following. If you could buy one again without a second thought then self insure. If cutting that check would be very painful or not possible then insure. (Former Aviation Broker)
