Chefs and their watches?

I am a massive fan of cuisine, along with others I’m sure. Ive been cooking since I was very young and have always wished I had become a chef. I’m always visiting new restaurants all over the world, watching cooking / chef related reality shows on TV etc

One thing I notice is many chefs have extremely good tastes in watches! I’ve seen more rolexes consistently on chefs than I have anywhere else in the wild. Could be because I spend too much time in restaurants lol

Anyone on here a chef professionally? If so could you tell me, Are watches and WIS very common in the industry?

Not a professional, but definitely a hobby of mine. Gordon Ramsey and Bobby Flay just to name a few with great watches

The built-in timer on the Sub is a nice feature to have for cooking as well!

Wolfgang Puck wears a Panerai Luminor. I have seen it on his wrist in the restaurant.

Malaysian celebrity chef Nik Michael Imran is a WIS and has a lovely story behind some of his most favourite watches
1# The AP ROO was a wedding gift from his father-in-law and Chef Nik actually wears the watch during recreational diving over the weekends !
2# His dad bought the Rolex OP DJ on the very day Chef Nik was born and 21 years later on Nik's birthday, his dad said " Now this watch belongs to YOUR SON ". That Rolex is Chef Nik's most sentimental and treasured timepiece.
3# The Hypergrand watch was a gift from the Malaysian culture streetwear designer clothes brand, Pestle & Mortar after Chef Nik won his first cooking award
4# Bedat & Co (His and Hers set). Chef Nik and his wife wear their respective watches during formal dressy occasions

Used to make a living as a chef as a young man. I can see the parallel appreciation between Horologie and Culinary - products being a result of art and science...both can be made at a really high level that entertains the senses.

Personally I am more utilitarian in my approach, I'd wear a g-shock when actually working a kitchen. It's a rough environment for a fine timepiece - steam/cold/wet/oily/banging pots and pans etc...of course once celeb chef status is achieved, time spent busting it out on the line is quite the rarity, i.e. peeps you see sporting the luxury pieces on food network

I was watching James Martin last night (UK chef) and there was a lot of close-ups of his BLNR. He also sports an original LV.

Guy fieri has a large collection.

Chef Jet Tila does as well. Lately he’s been sporting a ceramic white dial Daytona.

I'm a working chef and have a Z Blue and a YM. I also have my own BBQ sauce line.

No one in my circles has a luxury watch or interested in watches that I know of.
My chef jacket guy has a Hublot, but that's as far as it goes.
I wear both of my watches daily in the kitchen. (not at the same time or both in the same day)

I notice a lot of chefs that end up on TV are sporting Rolexes. I always figured it was because of the camera that looks straight down from above on them while they are cooking so they wanted a sweet looking watch on for that angle.

Too funny. I was working the other day and a spray if sauce went shooting up my forearm and right across my Milgauss. First thing I thought, I wasn't worried about the watch at all, but I thought, I should take a pic and post it here as one of those posts.

You're correct though, chefs love watches. I work for a food company and we employ thousands of chefs and many of them you meet are big WIS's.

Agreed. Sub reference was cool, but nothing could top the story of finding his Dad's stolen watch on eBay - and getting it back. Just wow.

james martin is a bit of a rolex nut. 4 or 5 daytonas including the platona and a paul newman I believe. He did wear a hulk for quite a long time as well. Currently sporting his white Daytona c most weeks.
