Budget's of course always going to be a key factor. I've never considered a Nautilus or RO (or even the Daytona nowadays) because they are all priced well above my budget.

But ... if you are lucky enough that the 321EW is within your budget, then the unique aspects of the 321 are well worth a closer look. The 321 movement is the clear distinguishing feature, but then there's the fact that this is the first (& maybe still only) Speedmaster (-Pro) sapphire crystal that doesn't exhibit that dreaded white milk ring. I have three Speedmasters and the other two have plexi because I can't handle that ring...

Aside from the nod(s) to historical aspects of the older Speedmasters (DON, stepped dial, applied logo etc) which are now also available with the production SMP, the 321 has the longer markers and along with the "C3" SuperLuminova, makes for the brightest of all my Speedmasters and I'd venture to say brighter than any other "classic" (1861 & co.) Speedmaster.

These three unique traits for me makes the difference between the current production SMP and the 321EW night & day

Oh and the 39mm may seem to be small, but thanks to the same bezel size (and indeed dial size), the 321EW has a big presence

Although the watch is only 39.7mm, it wears more prominent than most of the photos I saw online. I still do not have any luck handling one physically.

Funny, I actually much prefer the 39mm case over the professional. I may speak heresy but I really dislike lyre lugs and crown guards.

So of course when the FOIS came out (seems like ages ago now) I really liked the form factor, but there were too many "if only it had this..." to justify it. The 321 fixed every problem for me except that darned 19mm lug width.

I’ve always preferred the straight lugged case also. Takes up a lot less real estate on the wrist

Sort or the same here.

The straight lugs help draw attention to the dial, which oddly, wears larger to my eye than the 42

Is it my imagination, or is the market interest in the Ed White 321 heating up?

Definitely heating up. Walked into a boutique today. Was told there are 4 to 5 people on the list, and the SA was instructed not to add any more names to the list. "OK, but if I buy this 3861 speedmaster, could you add me to the list?" "Yup, in that case yes, but they may end production before it's your turn."

Cold called another boutique. Was told 5 year wait time. In other words, piss off

Seriously considering going grey for this piece.

Seen one preowned but clean (2021) asking 17900. Seems like close to 17k is doable. Retail is what 14000. I think they are reasonable compared to the absurdity of many Rolex etc. If I come across one NIB at a price I like I’ll entertain grabbing it. It’s just really hard for me to pay over for any watch right now the way things are going.

I think they may remain harder to come by at omega boutiques but examples will pop up close to retail plus tax soon. Fortunately it’s not a flex piece but a connoisseurs piece.

It's very expensive for a speedmaster but I'm confident that omega delivers on this. i'd pick this over any rolex. maybe some day

Lol. Caught red handed.

At least for a BNIB, $19k was the 2nd cheapest I've seen in 2022.
