Have you tried your 124270 on various straps yet? I heard someone complain that it's a recess in the case where the bracelet is set, that makes using a strap impractical? Is that true?

TRF Explorer I Club Thread

Is it just me or does the minute marker seem a tad short on the 124270 and TT version?

Nope, the minute hand does seem to be a tad short.

I believe they did not want to go Maxi dial with the newest explorer in order to preserve the vintage vibes maybe? The hands remind me of my 5-digit sub.

Hopefully joining this club soon. I had the opportunity to try this in my ad and it is a wonderful piece.

I don't think so, especially when you think about the other proportionality considerations and overall execution:

1. The minute hand must be shorter than the seconds hand
2. The seconds hand tip lines up perfectly with the 60-mark chapter ring
3. The edge of the lume on the minute hand lines up perfectly with the edge of the lume on the hour/5min markers

124270

I own both and the handsets are different

The 124 minute hand seems relatively shorter when measured against the hour markers…. It dosnt reach the seconds hash marks. The hour marker is also thinner and longer feeling with a longer “beak” at the end of the Mercedes’ circle. I’ve never felt that the minute handset was too short to tell the time, not has it ever bothered me that it dosnt reach past the hour markers.

The MKII handset has a minute hand that feels long , especially compared to the relatively shorter / squat feeling hour hand ….. more like a finger and a thumb.
When I wore the MKII I liked the longer minute hand but I didn’t like the less pointy/ maxi hour hand. I always wish it was longer so as to not seem so short against the minute hand.
In my perfect world the larger MKII would have benefited from a longer hour hand before the Mercedes’ circle and a longer “beak/ pointer triangle.

The smaller 124270 handset benefits from not being maxi sized IMO….. the handset seemed more balanced but still clearly functional and the handset size seems proportionally correct for the smaller classically sized 36mm case with less bezel and a less sporty presence.

For my wrist I wouldn’t change a thing

It’s probably a combination of the thinner bracelet and varying photo angles. Check out my 114270 from the three iPhone cameras on my 7” wrist.

Douglas speaks the truth

But there is something about the 19mm lug width/ the new AR coating and the larger dial text and hour markers that has the new explorer looking larger on wrist than specs ( or side by side photos ) would suggest.
