For those that own both Subs (ND and Date), which one gets more wrist time?

I like the symmetry from the Submariner. But I really appreciate the "date" function, so this is the one for me.

Daily wearer, so I like the practicality of the date function, as well as the cyclops which is an iconic & brand-capturing Rolex design.

There is only one Submariner —it’s steel, black dial, black bezel, and it doesn’t have a date… |

Cyclops is one of my favorite features in a Rolex watch, Sub date is my choice.

Those who prefer the ND are typically enthusiasts, which if you're on a watch forum, you probably are an enthusiast. So, a forum poll I think is slightly going to skew towards a ND.
Personally, I think the date is the way to go! Glad I got my Sub with a date. That being said, I'd like to have both, but if I could only have one--Sub date it is! |

2022 Edition - Sub or Sub with Date?
Quote:
From what I’ve read on here, the Submariner Date is produced/outsells the Submariner by approximately 5:1 (please someone correct me if I’m wrong), and often mentions that collectors tend to prefer the Submariner. As this forum is full of collectors, the results aren’t surprising For the non-enthusiasts, however, the preference seems to be strongly for the Submariner Date. Here’s my 124060 🤿 |

Symmetry is key for the Submariner so that means my 124060 is the watch for me.

20 years ago, a date was a regularly occurring complication on Rolex watches - minus a few models. Now, with the OP phenomenon, the no date watch is more prevalent. It really is a personal choice. I chose the 14060m 18 years ago because it was considered an entry level Rolex (read less expensive) and I was a young novice to the brand and models. As my appreciation and knowledge has grown over nearly two decades, I'd probably still go with the sub over the sub date today.

2022 Edition - Sub or Sub with Date?
Date makes 0 sense on a “dive” watch so traditionally speaking, no date is more of a pure iteration.
On other hand, 126610 might as well be a homage to a true Sub. The modern day SubC is shiny and luxurious and by no means a “classic”. It is the newer dressed up iteration of a classic The date is useful IMO. If I were buying a 12x sub, I am getting my money’s worth and going date all day. |

I’m struggling with this decision currently. Probably going no date as I have a few other watches with a date. But part of the question depends what is in the rotation.

I think this question is hard to answer without knowing what else is in your collection? Do you have an explorer 1? Then maybe opt for the sub date.
Do you have a GMT? Then maybe a no-date sub is the way to go. |

Both great. But early on in this hobby about 15 years ago, actually before I was on this forum, I thought having a Submariner ( no date) looked more unique …but asked myself “ why doesn’t this watch have a date???. “ I just liked the symmetry of the ‘original’ Submariner and eventually thought to myself it looked more retro and cool. Lol. This was back when the submariners offered were 14060 ( m?) and 16610 ( date version)
My position hasn’t changed in the last 15 or so years. |
