Double AR coating

Hi Guys & girls I've been lurking on trf for a while but haven't posted much.

I recently purchased a new Pam 01085 & absolutely love it. I have been thinking about having the top surface of the crystal AR coated or having a double AR coated replacement crystal fitted to really make the blue dial pop & would like know if anyone has any recommendations of where in the UK I could get this done?

Tia

Has no nobody got any advice on this?
Whether it's actually worth doing or something that's not recommended?

Personally it's not something I've ever done and to be honest I always prefer not having AR coating on the outside of the crystal as it's not as durable as the sapphire itself and will inevitably get scratched, and when it does get scratched it won't look very good....and this is usually when people try to have it removed. I've read more cases on the forum of people wanting to remove the AR coating on the outside rather than have it applied.....I wouldn't bother.

Regards,
M.

I hadn't considered durability thats really good advice thank you!
Based on that information I think I'll leave it as Panerai intended.

I do NOT like having AR coating on the outside of the sapphire. That will actually dissuade me from purchasing a watch. You're taking something very difficult to scratch (sapphire) and making it...weaker.

I hate sapphire with AR coatings. I really wish more watches with domed crystals would offer hesalite as an alternative to AR coatings — some Panerai models do have hesalite offerings. As mentioned above, coatings scratch easier than the sapphire, which makes using sapphire pointless.

I also really dislike external AR coatings for reasons others have stated above.

I've let go some watches because of the AR coating, and will not purchase watches if they have external AR.

I have factory AR on both sides on other watches and can appreciate it but it would not be something that I would add after market. That is just me though. If you want it go for it.

Double AR is a beautiful thing as long as it is not scratched.
Crystal seems to disappear.

I have gone to double AR on a few watches and it works amazingly on totally flat crystals but not quite as well on domed crystals. Flat crystals literally disappear with double AR whereas domed crystals still reflect some light so the difference is more subtle in my experience.

As others have said, double AR also scratches more easily.

AR coating on the outside is almost guaranteed to get scratched. I’m not a fan of it at all..

I think it depends on the wearer. I have 3 watches with double AR that I've had for a few years and they still look amazing. Of course now that I've proclaimed that I'm pretty much guaranteed to put a scratch on their crystals now.
