It’s because dollar for dollar they trade far closer to MSRP and always have.

typically to get that price tax free you need a permit unless its an under the table cash deal.

I look forward to the timepiece commerce getting back to normal. When a couple can celebrate a special occasion, and perhaps reward themselves with his & her Rolexs. Or mom and dad getting their early 20s child a Rolex as a graduation present. Or decades of hard work finally pays off, and so....

It could be a spur-of-the-moment decision, as my wife and i did when getting the Sub at msrp. Back then Greys were cheaper, sure, but I've stayed loyal to my AD Mayors and they've been wonderful.

All that you touch and all that you see...
I'll see you on...

I saw a baguette on Moda today as well - I think it was $145k.

A few remarks OP.

Stimulus Money, Overheated Central Bank Printing Presses, Crypto Craze, NFTs, Berserk Stock Market, = Easy Money

That era of folly is drawing to a close, and with it we will see the curtain call on luxury goods.

A nice DJ and a Submariner is all one really needs imo. There both incredible watches.

Better than Netflix and that’s a proxy. Very good point and observation. I’d say Rolex and real estate was a good and best hedge per se.

Who cares? I’ll be glad when all this nonsense goes by the wayside, and reading about watches on the internet doesn’t sound like reading about Bitcoin.

Can't wait for the Rolex market reset. I worked hard the last few years to have the money to buy them, only to struggle finding one that I can buy at MSRP. Flippers and investors messed up the watch hobby for enthusiasts and people who would actually wear their watches. The whole Rolex AD experience has been a joke these last two years.

There was a time when a steel ceramic daytona was selling around 20k in the grey market and I was like, that’s too expensive. Lol.

Lol i remember those days. I told a buddy that wanted one buy it right now, he didn’t. Now I’ve notified him again, when they hit 25/26 time to buy.

maybe when we burn off the rest of the 12-month appreciation and we rid the marketplace of "investors" us collectors can begin panic buying

i don’t invest but will be annoyed if the daytona ceramic black drops below what i paid as it means i could have bought it for cheaper. I bought two other watches grey but one was under retail and the other a couple of grand above retail so no biggie.

Interesting post OP. And great banter guys.

But can anyone tell me when things will change enough for me to get the call from my AD?

Yes Brain. The doomsayers were prophets. Discounts now available at AD's and secondary market is at 25% off MSRP.

The prices are still far above MSRP and way over inflated. Hopefully the trend continues and the rest of the speculators get out.

Have to agree but today Rolex watches have become just Mickey Mouse watches with their silly nicknames, and now little more than £$€ object things and little more.

I think as the current economic situation troubles some people, they are less willing to pay higher and higher prices for luxury goods they do not need. Another factor is people perceive a top in used watch prices and more folks are selling into it to lock in the gains. One used watch dealer, I follow sold three or four second hand white dial SS Daytonas last week. The added supply to the used market is another factor in the pre-owned market prices softening. Really not much to not understand here.

No, the watches are still the same - other than improving incrementally over the years in materials and accuracy.

The fan base has changed. It used to be mostly enthusiasts fashionable people, those groups still exist. Today we also have 90% speculators in the mix. In a couple years they'll be gone.

The nicknames are there whether you like it or not. How long has even the old skool GMT been called a 'rootbeer'? And the 'Paul Newman' Daytona? And the 'Fat Lady'?

At least it's not like Omega - they actually have cartoon characters on the dial!
