It could be a spur-of-the-moment decision, as my wife and i did when getting the Sub at msrp. Back then Greys were cheaper, sure, but I've stayed loyal to my AD Mayors and they've been wonderful.

All that you touch and all that you see...
I'll see you on...

I agree, Steven. We were just saying the same.

Also, Mayors has been very good to us as we have to them. My husband just got a WG Sub in from them. Now if they can just get in my 36MM Tiffany blue OP!!

It’s not silly. There is a bid offer, and that’s all you need. Houses are no more liquid than watches. You only need to understand and agree (or disagree) with the calculation methodology

68% over retail for a strap watch with a moon phase seems like a steal

Used prices are set by supply and demand. On the supply side, softening used prices could increase flipping from FOMO or reduce it as less money to be made. Softening used prices could also increase demand on the used market as more can afford them. So, it is quite possible that availability will not change until there is a substantial move out of watches to some other new fad. This is due to the fact Rolex makes about one million watches a year in a world of seven billion people.

Wait, so you're saying I can't trade my $12,500 MSRP Daytona for a Ferrari? I thought I'd just hold onto it for a few more years, then dump it for a sports car. Guess I'll have to look at Porsche instead now...

Loupe This and Doublewrist Auctions are also good auction sites to keep a track on.

Very interesting to see the rea world value of these things vs the dreamer prices being advertised.

2021 Black dial DaytonaC hammered for $26k 2 weeks ago on LoupeThis. Been watching the auctions and even the vintage mkt seems to be getting hit.

You have one data point. Congrats, point totally proved.

When can we get back to discussing watches, rather than prices?

I think people would rather discuss watches except all these speculators have ruined the hobby with their flipping nonsense. Now they going broke trying to dump inventory as fast as possible, and I say good. I'm so sick of these young kids and self proclaimed gurus becoming "dealers" just to flip watches, its all good when everything is up up up every week but when you are taking a 30% haircut, suddenly you are no longer an expert telling everyone to buy buy buy before the prices go up even more.

not to say prices aren't dropping but an F serial naked 116520 at 22k isn't anything crazy. just did a quick search and 116520s from that time period were going for 26-30k full set back in jan-march. just not something anyone would want to look for when going for a daytona i think considering it's almost 20 years old at this point and most would be beat up or badly polished. the random serials were pushing 40 so it would be interesting to see how those are holding up

Lowest I see on watchrecon is in the 27-28k range w/o papers for an alphabet serial. Here is one example:
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=843461

I don’t follow these all that closely but I was pretty surprised by the 22k price. Maybe I’m mistaken though.

Thank you for agreeing that this watch was much lower than where it would’ve been 6 months ago.

I know nothing about that specific watch. How much was it worth six months ago?

Just for a point of reference, there are at least 2-3 of the newer grey dealers that have are hemorrhaging at the moment, not paying their dealer network. I assume they were acquiring inventory on a line of credit or faith in the dealer network (I see they have millions in inventory on their webpages and I doubt they have that kind of capital unless all their Pateks are on consignment). So they are essentially leveraging debt to acquire a highly volatile asset. I have no clue what their interest is on their lines of credit or whatever but I would assume the rate doubled or tripled while their inventory took a 30% haircut which probably put them upside down as well as without cashflow. Anyone with any business sense would know that watches prices can't just go up every week to make this business model profitable.

Wake me up when Royal Oak is $29K again.

Everyone being in agreement that the end is near is actually bullish IMO. If the fed panics over the recession it created and reverses course and drops rates 3% and begins QE I wouldn't want to be short anything other than dollars.
