They should have told you to put "Not For Resale" on it. Total BS!

The case back is really the most unimportant part of the watch cosmetically and probably the one place I could care less if it gets scratched up because it is so cheap to replace.

Doesn’t the case back have the matching serial number on the inside face?

Is it just old-school words, or do they have a cool modern laser engraver so you can have pics and patterns? And if so, does anyone know the file format Rolex needs?

I’ve only seen old school. The only engraving I’ve ever seen outside of words is John mayers dead and co skull on the back of his white gold Pepsi.

I would be into it as I’ve wanted to engrave a few watches. The issue i have is i don’t want to get a new watch, then wait however long it takes to come back from the engraver. I’m too impatient.

Would you?

You have the option not to buy said car if that’s a requirement. I wouldn’t mind getting my name engraved on the engine block or embroidered on the dash because I would drive it every day. Life is too short to not use these luxury items each and every day. I rotate my rolex collection to work, to play golf, to the pool, and to the gym. They make me happy.

I saw it on a blusy in Vegas.. He bought it at WOS Wynn.. he said that he had to engrave it in order to buy it. He engraved it with something personal. I felt so sorry for him.. it's really not the business of the AD to demand an engraving. I bought it new and want to keep it the way it's made. I guess not in this AD.

Agreed. It’s my watch. I don’t want one badly enough to do something I don’t want, especially for a mass produced item.

Conceptually I get it....Principally, I'd tell them to #$%$ off.

The store employee or even owner is going to tell me to alter the original product in order to prove my faithfulness?

Any who....Lets here it...

How much are these case backs????

Steel?
Gold?
Platinum?

People complain about AD’s/Rolex not doing anything about flippers yet complain about something that can help out… also, if you don’t Want to engrave it then you don’t have to.. buy another brand or Rolex elsewhere.. no one is forcing you to
do anything.. the new car analogy isn’t comparable as you are not scratching the prominent part of the watch. It’s like them telling you to engrave under the hood with your name that no one sees unless you open the hood.

This! I was asked the same question when I got my James Cameron as a walk in (while in Las Vegas) and said absolutely!! After they saw I’m an NV local and actually offered me the watch all the talk of engraving went away. In fact, when I asked about the engraving and if they could do it (I do want my case back engraved with a personal message in fact) they told me their engraving machine was down but on my next trip to Vegas they’ll do it for me if I’m still interested.

I had a great experience at the Wynn Rolex. The best AD experience in search of my Rolex.
Requested in February and got the Watch in April of this year. No word of engraving or any other “tests”. Out of the dozens of ADs I’ve visited, this location was most helpful and willing to spend time, if you’re there ask for James.

I was just visited this boutique today. I purchased my Air King from here. My first Rolex. I didn’t recognize the place since the last time I visited which was over two years ago. It went through a complete makeover late last year. It was one of the largest boutiques I’ve seen with several cases for watches to display. Today it has shrunk down dramatically. No museum either. Only display models in the cases. It was nice to see some references that I have never seen before in person, but not for sale. Sales staff was friendly, but I am disappointed on what it is now.

It is ridiculous it has come to this. You could blame the flippers, some of whom posted in this very thread. *cough* #61

The OP is discussing a PM model and a replacement case back may only be a cheap part to you.

Yea, I missed the “PM” part. I was referring to SS models and how inexpensive they are to replace.

Absolutely one of the most outrageous things I have heard yet. Be required to deface & permanently diminish the value of a watch in order to buy it?? And everyone posting here isn't outraged?

I'd make a deal- I'd let them engrave it if the SA let me engrave the same thing on the back of their watch. No big deal- they can always get it buffed-out or replace their case back. (Actually, I'd never let them force me to engrave a watch in order to buy it. I would have bought my last Rolex, ever.)

And this is why I have lost all interest in modern Rolex. Stupidity. Idiocy. Nonsense. Ass kissing. Game-playing. Irritating posers. Good for others, I suppose, but, not for me.

Exactly. Can’t have it both ways. Warranty cards being held. Engraving. All makes sense to me if you’re trying to get the watches in the hands of those that want to keep them.

They want that treatment for everyone else, not for themselves.
