Exp 1016
Wow....my last visit was almost a year ago! Anyway, I am considering offering up my Explorer 1016 but I am having difficulty with pricing. Local AD's and jewelers only appraise at replacement cost only and I've seen values from 6k to over 20k. So, here's the lowdown on the watch. If someone needs specific info please let me know, as I want to know what I have
Explorer Ref 1016 SN 3005xxxx Folded steel bracelet Endlinks and date codes all match Purchased 71/72 by father (no box, papers) Serviced by AD, crystal replaced Mvmt, dial, hands all original Dial marked SWISS - T<25 Watch is in running condition As a side note, I recently found out about the "Frogs Foot" coronet. For the life of me, I can't tell if this has it or not. I've heard that if the center leg is longer, then it is a Frogs Foot. I've heard that if the leg tapers under the end ball, then it's a Frogs Foot. If that is the case, then my 2008 SD has a Frogs Foot coronet too! Can someone look at the coronet and tell me what they see..... |

Wonderful looking 1016 you've got there, with the added bonus that it was originally purchased by your father. Must have been tough to even consider letting this one go.
Looks like a frog foot to me, with great patina on the dial and matching hands which is always tough to find for this reference. Original crystal has been replaced but T22's can still be found. Best of luck if you decide to sell but I'm hoping that you will change your mind and decide to keep it in the family. |

wow, the 1016 sure is a great Ref, I had to opt for a 114270 Explorer as budget permitted, its a great watch to own and as already mentioned by others try to keep it,

Wow! Fantastic explorers. I have been lusting after a 1016 for ages but the prices have just gotten out of reach, sadly :(

beautiful 1016 I would keep it if I was you since it was your dad's too and holds sentimental value.

Thanks guys for all your input. As far as selling goes, I am still on the fence on if I'll let it go. The sentimental value is priceless to say the least but since my (former) company divested my location and the new owners downsized management, I find myself on indefinite vacation! So I am Exploring my options just in case....yea bad pun I know!
I've received several PM's with offers so once I get a few appraisals, I'll make a decision. If anyone is seriously interested or would like additional pics, PM me and I'll see what I can do. |
