It happened once that I sold my Rolexes and started collecting PAM. However, Rolex is still a Rolex. You just HAVE to have one at least.
Panerai, Rolex, two different brands that serve different purposes

I've owned over 20 different PAMs, and I love Panerai. However, Panerai will never supplant Rolex, IWC, PP, AP, or VC in my eyes.

To me they are two very different watches. I love them both! PAM 111 and Rolex SS WD Daytona are classics that have a place in watch history ...

And yet you guys take the time to check out the Panerai forum. I think these Pam haters see the tide turning or they harbor secret feelings they so desperately wish to supress.

To me they are just different and great watches at the same time. I came to this site to find out more about rolex, the daytona etc etc, now I have decided I will get a rolex and will defo get a panerai, the only difference is that I will get a panerai first and then the rolex. To me the rolex is such a classic brand and Panerai gives the wear more options. so both wonderful brands.

I am okay with the two camps... - there is enough competition on the PAM side and not enough watches.

Amazing how difficult the hard to find ones are - even in the recession! And the "rare" ones are at amazing premiums if available at all.

I am NOT a hater (as you would see from my PAM wild thread), but PREFER other houses/brands for the pricepoint.

I can understand all that...except your order of acquisition of course. Then again, I do see you listed the watch in your description as "Rolex of course". That doesn't sound like you're a 'Buy Pan before Rolex' kind of guy!!!

x2 for me!

but for me the deep sea has raised my desires for a timepiece, not because of its thickness or overall diameter but for build quality.... my other rolex timepieces now just don't feel as solid. The smaller sizes dont help either going back and forth between my timepieces. I tried on PAMs over at Torneau in Vegas and the leather straps just dont do it for me nor do the feel of the timepieces. I agree with Moby about his comment about a solid feeling stainless steel bracelet and rolex by far has the best feel for me.

most definitely! i have yet to find a better feeling and functional stainless bracelet. Tried on several watches this past weekend and nothing at the whole torneau store felt on par.

Very true, just a few things
1. I am a lady
2. I joined the site primarily to find out more about Rolex - hence why it is called rolex forum, not Pan forum.

That aside, I first saw a pan in 2002 ish, put it to the back of my mind and now I have learnt a little about the rolex, waitlists etc, my attention turned to getting a leather strap watch while I wait for a daytona.

I guess I'm just a watch lover. If I see it and like it, and it is of nice finish and with a quality movement (Rolex inhouse, ETA's and Val's, JLC,) I love it. Do I love one more than the other?????? Depends on the day.

Some watches I would like to own one day.

Earlier in my search, was interested to look for a Rolex. However, trying a few on..they just don't speak to me.

Panny....each Luminor I tried instantly spoke to me...hence, the 111!!!!
