I was just at the AD this past weekend and I compared them both. For me, the 233 was the clear cut winner. The movement with the 8-day power reserve is really something special and I love the indicator on the dial. The 233 seems to have more dial symmetry and the domed crystal is absolutely amazing...it gives the watch an extra dimension. Most importantly, I found the fit/comfort to be quite different. The 233 seems to wear closer to the wrist and distributes it's weight more evenly across the arm.

The 233 is definitely the next watch I will purchase.

I like the thought of the 8 day PR but not keen on the dail on the front, not sure why it's only 100m WR? guess it's the different crystal, think I would go for the 312.

233 for Me

The 233 sits more comfortable on the wrist; and that domed crystal gives it a splendid dimension!

It's an incredible watch Charles...looking forward to the pics

I also agree with your experience- it really is so comfortable. Love them both...but the 233 has eventually won in my mind

233 all day long. Like many have said the way it sits on the wrist and the domed crystal pip the 312 at the post. I am at a bit of a crossroads at the moment, having owned my PAM 232 for 4 years I am considering trading it in and either getting a 233 or complete change and get a Deepsea!!!

233

I'vd tried them both on. The 233 is so much more of a watch. It's almost perfect except for the 8 day indicator on the front. The 233 is very comfortable to wear and the balance of weight is just right. Preference is for the dot version here!

Does anyone know if the strap on the 233 is on any other models, specifically models with the 8 day display?

I believe the 'tunnel' strap is only offered on the 233. I've never seen another reference with this strap.

233 for me. The doomed glass is amazing, and it wears much much better than the 312, which tends to sit too high on the wrist and a bit uncomfortable at times.

Unofficial post results...

Hard to get the exact count..since some people only respond in their post, but not vote. But the unofficial poll is now:

PAM 312 50 Votes
PAM 233 47 Votes

Interesting as this thread ages...more votes are now in favor of the PAM 233 in the last 3-4 months. Do you think this as a result of:

(A) The initial lure of the 312 has worn off..since it was the newer watch at the time of the poll starting date
OR
(B) Recent service problems with the 312 have hurt the watch's appeal as a good investment?

probably hard to draw such precise conclusions.

Both are stunning - it comes down to personal preferences.

Possibly that the 233 is a bit of a classic now, the first manufacture and so the love continues. So maybe the novelty of the 312 is running out and the result is more objective.

Also this question does not bring price into it, and then the much more expensive 233 has some advantage.

I have been looking at 312 to compliment my Sub-C. Is there something similar that Panerai has come out with that people now like more than the 312?

I have also had my eye on 351 (and change strap tp black from brown)...any 351 lovers?

had the 312 for 2 years; traded it for a 233.

simplicity and clean dial of the 312 was the initial attraction, however the 233 domed crystal wins hand down over the flat crystal of the 312. the numericals "12" and "6" of the 233 dial looks more attractive than the numericals on the 312 dial.
233 fits a lot more comfortable on the wrist than the 312 and feels a little lighter but better balanced. the 8 days movement is a joy to wind, i simply do not miss the 3 day auto power reserve of the 312
if i want to wear a big chunk of a watch i would go with the 312 as it sits taller and seems to carry more bulk over the 233.
given unlimited funds, i might keep the 312. with limited funds, i would go for the better balance and looks, movement, and exclusivity of the 233

I Chose 233

I struggled with the decision over these two models.

Both excellent in their differeing ways. In short, I bought the 312 becuase it was the more reasonable decision for price/value ..... then returned it in a week and got the 233. No regrets whatsoever.

The 233 just sings to me in a way the 312 did not.

I have yet to try on either of these, however based on what I have and what I have seen I would lean towards the 233.

Same as you I've had a 312 form a while and just got my 233 last week and the 312 has already been moved on!!! Yes the 233 is extra £££'s but it's worth it!

233

I had the same dilemma. I ended up with the 233 mainly because of how it sits on the wrist and it works better when you wear a suit.

You really have to go in and try both. before I tried them I was 90% certain that I was going to go with 312, but after I tried it on and saw the doomed crystal, I was sold on the 233 dot.

Also, it's a pleasure to wind the 233 once a week!!

Can't agree more with you...I could only wear my 312 on weekends as it too bulky to fit under a double cuffed shirt comfortably.
