RSC Movement Service Question
does anyone know for certain whether rolex (corporate & ad's) updates pre-2004 model watches at services? ie: parachrom hairsprings, newer spec oils, gaskets, springbars etc...? or do they use the original spec ones from the parts bin that were originally spec'd for particular calibres when manufactured?
thanks |

Nope, they will replace parts like with like, Rolex won't upgrade them during a service.

Oils and oiling techniques are always evolving and are used to service all models old and new,but upgrading balance wheels is not on the menu. Rikki

Right. Except that they are not using Nivarox hairsprings any more. They are instead making their own hairsprings. Even if you are correct, you will be correct only until they run out of their supply of Nivarox hairsprings. |

yes, this sounds plausible too because i overhauled a 14060M and ended up getting a sapphire crystal WITH the rolex laser crown etched thing at 6 o'clock when my 14060M never came with it. i also got a bezel insert with an off greenish (more blue) color as opposed to the true green as on the indices. it'll be interesting to see if the parachrom ms will be the defacto replacement in the coming years.

On the 14060M unless my eyes deceive the bezel insert has always been black with silver numbers.

They do not "upgrade" the movements. I'm sure they do use the newer oils and seals made of better materials than those in the past. IMHO the "new" hairspring is 99.99% marketing BS. No real world benefit over the previous version. Rolex really should upgrade the movements with longer power reserves etc and not just this smoke and mirror marketing stuff.
