Should I flip my 5712 for a 5960P?

Dear all, I purchased my 5712 brand new in May last year, I still like it but I find the 5960P grey (cheaper) or blue (my first choice but considerably more expensive than the grey) tempting.

Firstly, It would mean trading a brand new piece with a pre-owned (which to some people, is not something to be worried about).

Secondly, it would mean loosing my Nautilus.

Thirdly, I would have to come up with approximately the double of the worth of my 5712.

I find the 5960 design very interesting (and yes I have read that the 5960 has had many complaints about its movement breaking down, and chrono seconds hand falling out of line with 12 o'clock position) and it is also a platinum piece. It is also a step up from the Nautilus but again, a Nautilus is a Nautilus, a category on its own.

Currently I own 3940G (I just returned my 3940J to the store where I purchased it as it was faulty), 3938G blue, 5712, and I just sold my 5164.

Should I also sell my 5712 1/A for the 5960P? If no, case closed, if yes, the grey or the blue (regardless of the fact that the grey is more plentiful than the blue).

Thank you.

If you have the funds and you like the 5960P and you do not wear the the 5712 very much, go for it.

The 5960 is a hefty watch on your wrist, thicker than any of of your other watches, so make sure you try it on your wrist first. IIRC, it is ~13.5 mm in thickness.

Between the gray and blue dial, I would go with the blue dial since you seem to like blue dial watches. But check and see what the price difference is.

I tried the 5960p on many times thinking i'd love it. I did not. Too thick and top heavy. Much happier with my 5712r. Much more refined watch.

I own the 5712 and 5960 in steel. If i could only own one--- much more preference for the later. I do not wear the 5712 that often. I like it do not get me wrong-- but I love the 5960-- chrono and annual calendar.. and PR.. cannot be beat

The store just told me that they also have a 5140P blue. Same price as 5960P blue. I actually love both. This is going to be a very complicated afternoon. What do you all think? Ok let me clarify my position, I am looking to "upgrade" my pieces and I love blue. As I flip around once in a while, I also have to think of flippability (I know, nothing beats Nautilus on flippability). Thank you again for your input

(Btw, I also have the 3940G but the looks are entirely different from the 5140P blue)

For me you're 3940 is a better option than the 5140 and I'm not keen on the 5960 so I'd stick with the 5712 for now. I'd hang on for a good 3970 if I were you.

You already, imo have the best Patek Philippe PC in the 3940 the 5712 brings additional flexibility in your collection.
I love the original 5960P but in this instance I would keep what you already have. Especially if you having to add a large amount of cash.

I would but I am not a fan of the 5712 so that would be an easy decision. I'd also go blue unless you can hunt down a black one. The grey is nice as well and also a good value today IMHO as market has heavily discounted it.

Just came out of the store, i must say the dial of the blue 5960 is amazing but it is a huge watch, very thick and heavy due to the platinum.

I have received an overwhelmingly "no" to the trade from this forum and I shall take your advice not to do the swap. Thank you all!

I wouldn't. I think it would be best to own both at the same time.

No, esp as you've sold the 5164.

The 5960P blue dial looks nice, although I agree that it is a thick watch. AFAIK it was produced for a short time, so not as common as the gray dial. The 5712/A is also a nice watch, in production for 10 years and has been a popular watch amongst forum members here.

The 5140P has a deep blue dial that is quite stunning as well. Although it uses the same movement as your 3940G, the dial makes it a different watch altogether. If your watch dealer has it, it may be worth your while taking a look at it, although I have to warn you that you may want to take it home

Keep the 5712. I spoke to an AD (PP boutique in Prague) at the weekend, and she told me that the two most in-demand PPs at the moment are the 5711 and the 5712 (in that order). She thinks that both are about to be deleted.

Unfortunately the 5140P was sold when i got to the store. I have handled it before a while ago in another store and yes it is beautiful and yes the blue dial makes it a completely different watch from the 3940

Thanks for the tip Hollister! I agree that these two Nautilus are as liquid as cash, and probably the best flippability at par with the latest ceramic daytonas.

No probs. The obvious outcome, if they do get zapped, is that values will rise even higher. Her advice was to hang on to either reference (not that I was contemplating flipping as the 5712 is quite possibly my favourite watch). Even if production continues, used 5712s are more valuable than new ones because of low availability + high demand.

Yep, because the wait list for a new 5712 is >>12 months, whilst a used 5712 is available to the buyer today.
