Big day for endurance sports! A friend of mine had a great day in Kona and she finished in 9:55. And then two of my training partners ran the Chicago marathon today and both finished in 2:44!

Seeing these big races gets me excited for my own training.

Congratulations to your friend and training partners. Very, very impressive efforts!!

Like you, just witnessing these events makes me want to put on my running shoes and get outside, though my achievements are a lot more modest. I am to run about 30-40km a week.

Wow. That's crazy. My body mechanics, even with orthotics, limited me to halfs.

I love running (I run 3-4 times a week, usually a distance of 8-10km) but a marathon is not something I'm ready for.

Thanks a lot. No ultras this side of Xmas, just 6 more marathons to go.

Next year I have a 45miler in Jan and a 50miler in Feb. I also have 6 more marathons scheduled for February including 4 in 4 days.

Also looking at the NJ trail series events for next summer as I have some time coming up over there. I tried a 100miler in Germany in August this year and the wheels fell of at 84miles so my target for next year is to complete a 100mile event.

Dude you are a beast! Very impressive. I have no idea how you recover so quickly. I am hoping to run 3 marathons next year like a sane person. Hoping to get run 2:30 - 2:35 range as a masters since I turned 40 last year. If you ever find yourself in the NYC area let me know and we can go for a run.

Swim or row. Those two exercises build more endurance and burn more energy than anything else. Period. But they are tough. If you can just get your mindset right you'll be straight.

Walk over 20 miles per week, push and sit-ups every morning, plus 2 hours per day formal mindfulness meditation sitting practice(body + mind "workout").

Interesting seeing this thread again. Circumstances changed for me last year so i have been a lot more sedentary than before. I hadn't run a marathon for a year until last weekend when, off the back of 5 training runs, I did 2 in 3 days. Times weren't great but I survived. Hopefully i'll be able to squeeze a few more in over the rest of 2015.

Oh, and if running 2 marathons in 3 days sounds a bit crazy there were 2 people on these events who had completed 20 in 18 days and 24 in 18 days respectively. The guy that had done 24 was still finishing them at around 3hrs.

I just wanted to see if people are still exercising. I bought a new wheel-set last week, and finally decided to race myself and see if I could beat my best time/avg. I ride 21-23 miles per day (6-7 days per week), and today I averaged 17.9mph climbing hills, 21.9mph on the flats and averaged 20.4mph overall. Not too bad for turning 45 next month. I encourage everyone to start a daily routine if you don't have one already.

Here is my pride and joy..........I've got just over $5,000 in it, and over 25,000miles on it.

A herniated disc and spinal stenosis combines with de quervain's tenosynovitis sidelined me for a while. Gained 15 pounds since March when I first had symptoms of my back problem.

Now I'm doing Physical Therapy and my back is feeling better. No running nor lifting yet though. It absolutely blows.

Nice bike Jason. I just got into cycling a bit and currently average about 15 miles 5-6 days a week. I did 20 yesterday and that's what I was aiming for per day when I started. I'm currently riding a trek ds5 hybrid but I may move to a full on road bike depending on how into I get

I started out with a 15 year old mountain bike and road tires on it. I was finally convinced by my friend that owns a bike shop that I needed an upgrade. It is the difference between driving a Yugo or a Ferrari on the road. The road bike is SO MUCH FASTER and more fun to ride. It really sounds like you are headed in the right direction.

Seems to me most the "answers" have already been stated, but for me it was shockingly simple.

(1) water only and a lot of it. I drink between .5 and 1 ounce of water per pound I weigh every single day

(2) vegetables comprise easily half of every meal

(3) fruit, proteins and healthier carbs make up the rest

(4) I also do a psyllium fiber sweep daily typically between lunch and dinner

That's it. If I stick to that I'm healthy, happy and have energy.

Would love to get into biking. Seems daunting for some reason. I loved riding when I was kid. My kids ride every day around the neighborhood... I really should start.

Sweet bike, Jason.

I started this thread 5 years ago when I was in the best shape of my life. Unfortunately, I've gained 38 pounds in the last couple of years. Although I'm now 50, I'm not using that as an excuse. In fact, I began working out consistently a month ago. And am starting to see results. In my case, I'm motivated by a surgery happening this Monday. I'll probably post some before/after pics in a few weeks along with some thoughts on my decision to go under the knife. Ugh!

I have, unfortunately, followed the same trajectory. Crazy work, crazy travel plus four years equals 40 pounds. I've reestablished the workout schedule, now need to reestablish eating/drinking habits (much harder for me).
