Tudor for me

For starters, I am sick of all the debbie downers calling Tudor a budget brand or poor man's Rolex.

I have owned and still do own many Rolex watches...everything from vintage GMT to WG DD and love them all. That said, I am about to but not 1 but 2 Tudor Pelagos because

1) I think they are cool looking watches, and
2) I don't fell like paying a hefty premium to buy another SS Rolex above retail.

Say what you want about me, but please stop calling Tudor the poor man's Rolex. Its like saying the guy banging down $500k/year is middle class. Ridiculous. Too many people have their priorities in the wrong place with comments like that. I guess they are the same people driving their $100k cars to the apartment that they rent. I buy watches for my enjoyment and I happen to enjoy Tudor timepieces. I don't really care what other people's opinons are of my watches.

Sorry for the rant. :-)

I have not heard anyone here saying the Tudor is the poor man's Rolex. there is a lot of appreciation for the brand on this forum. Did I miss something?

Lots of Tudor lovers here...I have a gmt and adore it!

don't have to look too deeply to find them. You are right, lots of Tudor lovers here, but plenty of haters too. Just irritating. Was reading some threads today loaded with hate so I felt compelled to post something!

They take chances Rolex won't...

I agree, Tudor does some wonderful & interesting things that Rolex won't even consider.
i.e. Bronze case etc.
My Black Bay Bronze with its continuing 'Patina' changes, makes it a daily user favorite...

Im a fan of the Black Bay Chrono - Although it's thicker than the Daytona, it has a date and about 1/5th the price of a new 116500!

A Tudor,...... is, the poor mans Rolex.

(hence, the endless justification)

Well I don't own a Tudor , but recently tried a blue Pelagos and loved it, also tried a friend's GMT on nato and was super nice, I see one in the near future.

Back in the 90's I owned a Tiger and it was a very nice watch, but I hated the Rotor noise of the ETA mvmt.

You haven't been paying attention.

You can hardly post a thread about Tudor without getting a chorus of trolls.*

Some here think that Tudor doesn't even belong in the Rolex forum.

There are those here who own both Rolex and Tudor and who understand the differences in the two brands and respect each.

I fall into the latter camp.

Why?

Perhaps justify your comment unless it was just a troll, which is surely seems to be.

Well said - I have 3 Rolex watches (waiting on another) and 5 Tudor watches, my wife has 1 Rolex and 1 Tudor watch - while the rest of my collection includes Omega's, Longines, Seiko's, Hanhart and others - so have around about 40 watches of different manufacturers and designs...

So, I cannot understand the whole 'my brand is better than your brand' or 'my watch is better than your watch because its an 'X' - reasoned/informed reviews on the merits etc of particular watches I can understand but the whole 'brand' thing is a deliberate marketing ploy that the companies love to use and 'enjoy' seeing brand fanatics go at each other...

When I started being involved in digital marketing back in the early days, many companies had strategies that deliberatly tried to 'stoke' these fires...I find it sad that so many people fall for this...

In relation to Tudor, they are most definately not a 'poor mans Rolex' - certainly not with the price they are, nor indeed the designs and mech.

They are the 'younger' more 'trying things out' side of Rolex, and Rolex see Tudor as being targetted at the young end of the watch wearing spectrum - target market audience 18-24 and 25-35 year olds - hence the tag line 'Born to Dare'.

This Forum has switched me right onto Tudors Black Bay, the GMT and the Chrono's

I used to be and i am sorry say a bit of a snob and always considered them to be Rolexes kind of illegitimate kid

However i have come to realise they are great value, great looking and also happen to be in stock to purchase.

Some very cool looking Black Bays out there, just can't decide on bezel colour, bronze or not.
Will try some on and see how they look/feel.

A Tudor will be my next watch purchase

And for those that just do not seem to understand...

Tudor is owned by Rolex, all the designs, projects, processes, strategies etc that Tudor put together - ALL have go through both the Rolex and Tudor Exec, Strategy and Marketing teams - with feedback/agreement/final-sign off always going up the line via the parent company, Rolex. This is self-evident when you visit Rolex head quarters in Geneva and also their manufacturing facilities.

...and before I get accused of sounding like a 'fan boy' - like those that I described earlier - I am simply stating the facts as I know them.

Very rarely have I heard "poor man's Rolex". Maybe the odd time, but I think it's made in jest and not intended, for the most part, to be an insult. I have owned a few Rolex OP34 models in my day, and often hear people calling the model "an entry level Rolex".

I do admit that, from time to time, there are ignorant and rude comments made by various individuals. Best to ignore these comments and move on.

At any rate, I could care less about how anyone refers to either brand. I have owned both, and think they are both excellent brands. And both are excellent value as well.

Cheers,
Carl

Great photo - I have that watch too and love it. Tudor make a great watch and I think the chunky case suits the diver IMO.

In general, I prefer Rolex. Particularly the sport models. However, I just picked up the Tudor Harrods Black Bay edition. That is one sharp looking watch!
