DD II vs DD 40

I am looking into getting myself a preowned DD in white gold. I am back and forth regarding the case size. Will a 41 sized case look odd once it starts becoming more rare or will it have the opposite effect?

You have to see both IRL, personally I think the DD2 looks odd. The DD40 is a much nicer watch.

Agree as a former owner of the 2 I'd go for the 40 now, better proportions.

DD2’s proportions are a mess. I’m surprised they aren’t less expensive on Gray/ 2nd hand market. DD40 is perfect.

I love the size of the DDII but think the open romans on the DD40 are sexier.

Preference imho - see both - try both before buying

The DD40 has absolutely perfect proportions. The DD2 isn't terrible but in my opinion (very strong) I think it looks like trash, bloated, and odd. DD40 hands down.

For me, it depends on the configuration, read YG, RG, WG or PT and dial color. I love my RG DDII RG Ivory dial. At first I kind of like the smaller bezel but now it looks too small except for the WG version.

DD II vs DD 40

Another vote for DD40. There’s a reason why Rolex decided to issue a DD40 instead of maintaining the DD2. Same goes for DJ41 vs. DJ2.

Going for the DD40, I think the abbreviated/open/deconstructed Roman numerals in applied version is a “trademark” for this model and the one you should go for IMO. You will not find this hour index in any other Rolex models, let alone other brands (I think). In my case, I was not a big fan at the onset for this type of index but eventually warm up to that dial setup.

Beautiful! Great job to Rolex.

Dd2 has a fat bezel. I prefer the slimmer dd40.

This watch keeps growing on me... very nice.

DD40 by far, proportions are much better (this from a former DJII owner).

I had a DD40 Rhodium and traded it for a DD2 with the blackout dial....I'm much happier with the DD2. The DD40 is more formal and the DD2 more sporty which suits my style.

Dd2 for me

Dd40 is a dd36 but 40mm . Dd2 feel more like a different styled dd. Dd40 does photo better tho.

DD40 buy a long mile for me.

Have worn both for considerable amounts of time. DD40 is just the perfect size imho.

You know it's strange because in the Datejust line I prefer the II over the 41

But for some reason the II never seemed to work for the Day Date. I really like the DD40 over the DDII

DD40 for sure. IMO Rolex realized that DDII was a flawed design and slimmed it down to the DD40.

I don't know that I would call it flawed but I think Rolex thought people would view the DD as a hybrid dress/sport watch similar to the Datejust. But due to the pricepoint I don't think that ever happened.

For a dress watch the DD40's design works much better.

DD40 seems a bit "crisper" in proportions and scale. I would not be surprised though, if DDII values hold only because it had a relatively short run and somewhat more limited.

Instead of writing my own reply, I just quoted my sentiments from other comments here. There’s a reason Rolex discontinued the II. But on the right person (roughly 7.75” + wrist size), the DDII will be a perfect fit.
