Miami Vice

Now this obviously aired long before I was born, but I decided to download all seasons and give it a go. It's actually a very fun series and I enjoyed the first season so far

I'm probably the only person on the planet watching this in 2019

Was a huge fan as a child.

Loved the Ferrari’s (Remember the Testarossa and Daytona - which I later heard was actually a rebodied Corvette?) - and Koenig and Wide body Merc’s (Which always seemed to be driven by the drug dealers), that were regularly featured.

Was more about the scenery and the look than anything else.
(I don’t recall a single story line LOL).

It was the shizzam. Remember my older brother wearing a stripy blazer with the sleeves rolled up.

And some company created a razor blade that would leave a shadow the length of Don Johnson’s in the show. I forget his character’s name, Crockett maybe?

Still have my Ratti Persols that Sonny inspired me to buy. At that time one of my most expensive toys but they still look good today.

If the watch the movie Thief with James Caan then the first Miami Vice, you will see a lot of the same camera shots directed by Michael Mann. "Rock n' Roll cops"

We used to stay home on Friday nights to watch it. It was “must see TV” before there was such a thing. Crockett and Tubbs were tremendous in their roles, the music was a blast and the guest stars were huge. Don’t even get me started on the women, especially those in the shows opening song!
Not sure how well the show holds up today. Sonny using the huge cellular phones with the big antennas is funny to see. However, if you just accept the show as a period piece it’s all good. Have fun watching!

P.S, Remember Sonny's pet on his sailboat? A huge alligator that was like a guard dog!

I thought it was a great show for the time and will catch it on occasion when flipping through the channels now. A little cheesy for today but still fun to watch. Gotta love the clothes, cars, watches and Miami in the late 70's/early 80's.

I was in my late 20's when this came out 84? i think so i would have been 27....i had friends buying clothes off the MV line at Macys i think.....To this day im looking for a TT Ebel chrono in good shape.....he wore 18k in the show. Another must have from season 3 on up was Smith and Wesson .45 he carried....which i ran out and bought and then sold like a idiot years later.
When i watch it today it looks pretty cheesy with the lingo of the time....and the hair style too. I really liked Magnum P.I. better.....but my exwife was in love with Don Johnson like every women in the USA back then. Oh i forgot I went back to a zippo lighter because of the show and tossed the bic lighters for a while till i gave up cigarettes in 89 and went to cigars....and back to butane.
Another big impact was Ray-Ban wayfarer sunglasses.....you could not find a pair anywhere.

Have a few friends who appeared within the original TV series. Lived in Miami at the time so saw filming / etc quite often.

It was a pretty iconic show with great music, clothes, cars, cigarette boats and women in a sultry Miami locale.

Smugglers blues was a great song that came out of it and Phil Collins episode was pretty fun.

Michael Mann produced it and did a lot of night shots which added to the look.

The fashion set trends that lasted years.

Love the show. The cars, the music, the 80s vibe; heck, Michael Mann was ahead of his time. He still is in some ways....

Some excellent episodes that help to define the “arc” of Sonny’s character through the series such as “Forgive us our Debts” (an episode with tragic implications later on) and “Mirror Image”.

Definitely makes for good TV watching.
