Moncler VS. Canda Goose

Shopping for a light weight winter jacket. I am stuck between two different brands, Moncler and Canada Goose.

Both seem well made and warm. I think the Moncler has more detail and is a bit nicer, but it's also over 3 times the price of the comparable Canada Goose.

Anyone have either of these brands, and care to share their opinion?

I think of Canada Goose as more utilitarian. Excellent quality and reasonably priced. Moncler is nice too and definitely more fashionable than CG but just a bit overpriced IMO.

Personally I think every bit in terms of keeping the cold out North Face does a pretty good job as well.

It could depend on the level too. I noticed a lot of serious cold weather gear makers have different levels of warmth.

I have a Canada Goose Expedition which I love but it's hardly lightweight!
I'm looking for an intermediate down filled jacket for those days when it's not cold enough for the CG.
Moncler are just a bit "trendy" for my taste. Northface made great gear 10-15 years ago but I don't rate them now since they have become so mass market.

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a Fjallraven Ovik and I would suggest you have a look at one of those.

Moncler is a women's fashion brand IMO.

You can't go wrong with a Canada Goose. The Snow Mantra might be overkill for you though.

There is also Italian luxury line CG which is really nice! Check out Como Parka.
I agree that Moncler is more like a luxury brand while CG has real hard core jackets.

Have you considered Woolrich John Rich & Bros? I've this one and I love it, it's super light in and super warm.

love that parka but woolrich is ridiculously priced in europe. a similar parka costs less than 400usd in the states while in the eu it starts from 630gbp.

True that. But that makes fewer people wear it ;)

Agreed...I have both..the Moncler is more on trend and fashionable, but very warm...the Canada Goose I save for tundra trips..it's too warm for just a normal cold day.

Canada Goose is serious cold weather gear, Moncler is high fashion gear, well made but it's fashion first, function second.

Those are actually similar to the CG I am looking at... The lodge jacket. It's very light weight. Might even need a sweater with it in dead winter.

I'm told they are super warm regardless.

Seems like the consensus is CG...

Now I need to decide between hood or no hood. Or maybe two, one with and one without.

The Fjallraven has a detachable hood so would save your dilemma and your wallet!

Be careful buying CG online. There are counterfeit products which have been found to have chicken feathers, ground up beaks and toe nails in the filling and the fur trim was identified as German Shepherd.

Sounds horrible but true.

We Canadians are rather more concerned about surviving the winter than looking good frozen to death. Haha

Yes only buy from a store listed as authorized on the actual Canada Goose website.

I love that more than a few people who actually live in Canada are buying and swearing by these...

You say you own a few.... Do you think it stands to reason that I bought two? Thinking I should return one.. But would like to think I should keep it and it won't go bad, they'll both last me... I suppose.

Believe it or not both cgs I bought are light weight and fold into a small pocket which turns them into a pillow
