An original 1970 GMT barn find with the DNA still intact!!!

I thought I'd share this 1970 GMT 1675 "root beer" that I came across the other day which was fairly complete and appeared to be unmolested since the 1970s except for a couple hands that had been replaced and a missing bracelet. There weren't any service marks on the case back and the o-ring gasket was no longer round but as flat as could be. The DNA under the bezel was unbelievable - the worst that I have ever seen. I seriously doubt that it has been serviced by all appearances but it was running just fine. The case appeared to be in decent condition for its age and the root beer dial was perfect.

These old, vintage watches are drying up fast out there in Vintage Land. This example is the first one that I've run across in several years. It should would be nice to find a few more.

Below are a few photos of the watch as found along with a photo of the watch with my other 1970 GMT with the black nipple dial.

That is a barn find! Look at that Penicillin culturing! That case, those lugs! Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

I have a great idea! Send it to RSC so they can "restore" the case

Joking...relax to the potential freakout.

No shots Richard

I probably should have scraped some off and brought it to the lab at UNT and let the students study it!!!

Tomorrow it's being dropped off with Ralph at Precision Watch.

Fantastic find!! Look at those lugs! If the new laser welders were to look for the perfect example of factory chamfers and lugs, it would be this.

Just curious when you say “barn find” - what does this usually mean with watches? Would love for you to share the story with us!
