Hello all,

I am a new member here from the UK.

I own a few modern Rolex pieces but want to venture in to vintage. I came across this red sub and wondered if anyone can tell me if it's genuine. It has been serviced by a Rolex approved specialist (not a RSC) which puts most of my fears to rest but I tried checking on the DRSD site and RPR for the dial and the only thing troubling me is the O on "officially" in relation to the E on "superlative". Perhaps I am being too picky. I have been told that closed 6 examples are scarce so if anyone could confirm / deny that it would be good too.
There is some flaking to the plot at the 10 position and it's a service insert but I have factored that in to the price.

Any help would be great from the knowledgeable members here.

That sort of thing may just be a distortion due to the crystal, its hard to tell.

What about the 10 O'Clock hour marker? Something is not right there.

The spacing of the characters in the word "officially" does look off.
You need more photos and better photos (zoom in) to get a better idea.

Only Rolex can tell you 100% for sure.

I think the 10 marker is flaking. I have not bought the watch yet as was a little concerned.
I will see if the owner ( a friend of a friend) will let me take it to Rolex to authenticate.

I advice you to take some photos outside in proper daylight and you will get good feedback here. And as always its better to back of a few inches and get it in focus rather than trying to get the watch to fill the frame.

You’re not being picky. IMO everything below the red print Submariner, is off. Not lined up properly for a MKV or VI. Which is what is looks like with the closed 6’s or almost closed 6’s (hard to tell). Also hard to tell, but the cross bars in the ft should line up in both of those dial versions. Need clearer pics for certain

Wow at Richris1 I didn't even notice that but checked it against the DRSD chart and you are 100% right. I think on balance I am going to pass on this one. You guys have really helped. Thank you so much. Was my first post on the forum and it's definitely helped.

Wow! that's really interesting and I can't recall ever seeing a pink sub. I've seen pictures of pink Seadwelers but didn't realize this happened to sub too.

Could you post a pic or 2. It would be interesting to gather some info on which dials become pink and which don't, what sort of time period these pinks subs appear in etc.

How “common” are you suggesting? I just went through the HQ Milton’s collection of red 1680s they sold (there’s over hundred) and none was pink.

I tried to do some more research and not 100% sure but also looks like the letters in "chrono" look to squashed together. Could end up being a good reference point for checking red subs. Also, it does appear that as mentioned some double reds turn pink but not many red ones do. It may suggest it was a white dial painted red? Thanks again for all your replies and help.
