Tudor Midcase - authenticity check
Hi
I came across this quite locally to me, after speaking a retired watchmaker. He didn't have much of value left as most was sold with his tools but he had some NOS sealed crowns (that I bought), some really bashed up dials for datejusts, vintage zeniths and omegas, some longines movement parts and this... He's offered me a couple of days to make a decision on whether I want it and for my best offer. I've realised the pics I took of the serial are un-readable but I ran it in a serial checker and dated to 1967 if I remember correctly My question to you fine folk is; Is it real? What should I offer? I have a suitable crown, movement and hands (albeit mercedes) I've seen the odd case back on eBay but worse case I'd be happy with aftermarket Anyone have a decent dial??? Regards Tudorfan |

In my opinion, no.
The crown guards look a little off, and the one certain tell on the underside of the crownguards the shadow prevents identifying where the crease is. The ref engraving looks sloppier than I would like, the tube is too short for a 7020 tube and too long for a 7000. Need better photos to be certain, but for what I see here it is not good.

I thought the tube could be aftermarket and certainly would be replaced if it were but obviously not worth doing if the case is a dud. Thanks for your time in helping so far |

Need better photos. Again, I really suspect this is not good. There is a balance on what should be shared and what shouldn't. Took a lot of trial and error, as well as handling, to understand difference.

I'm with linesiders on this, there are engraving issues, crown guard issues and unnatural wear on the case that when taken together comprise one large red flag.

The angle of the slash '/' tells you all in one minor easily identified 'tell'. Unfortunately F A K E

The interesting thing is the engravings are closer to what you would expect to see in a legit one but the spacing is off, fonts are off outside normal margin of error, even for a sloppy one. And yes, the slash. One reason not to go into detail is that they bad guys are learning.

Thanks everyone for your help.
Unfortunately getting hands on with enough known genuine pieces isn't easy so appreciate taking the time to shed the light on what to look for |

There are, unfortunately, two issues. First, a lot of these things to watch out for are subtle so describing something does not always work well. Second, we don't want to continue to make it easy for the scammers.

Lol....good point. The scammers are getting education somewhere and I doubt they are always buying original pieces to disassemble.

Lots of red flags as stated by John aka Linesiders. He is most knowledgeable guy regarding the Tudor.
Another red flag assume that you dated the serial number correctly which is circa 1967. The reference number 9411/0 does not exist at all in 1967. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And yes, the serial would indicate that. We don't know what the serial is so going by OP's statement it is no good.
