To put things into perspective, the ability to traverse from galaxy to galaxy is impossible even with Star Trek warp technology. Traveling to the far reaches of own Milky Way galaxy (100,000 light years) is also impossible. So even with the ability to travel far beyond the speed of light, we’re still limited to distances of only about several hundred light years away, which is just a fraction of the Milky Way Galaxy.

Here is where I become even less optimistic. I think intelligent life is abundant in the universe, no doubt, but perhaps not within in our own galactic neighborhood. When I say galactic neighborhood, I’m talking about the distances that can be travelled with Star Trek warp technology, and that’s where we could find the existence of intelligent life to be quite limited.

As insanely huge as those numbers are, it's actually far greater than even that. Andromeda alone has approximately ~1 trillion stars based on the most recent Hubble imaging. It's absolutely mind blowing, and there are galaxies that just dwarf Andromeda. Andromeda is 220,000 light years across from end to end compared to the Milky Way at 130,000. The largest spiral galaxy is 832,000 light years across. One of the largest cluster galaxies is IC 1101 and it is 5.5 million to 6 million light years across with an estimated 100 TRILLION stars! What?!

The largest galaxy ever discovered is Alcyoneus, which is 22million light years across. It's a radio galaxy shooting massive lobes out of each side.

https://bigthink.com/starts-with-a-b...argest-galaxy/

The latest research posits there could be as many as ~2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe alone. It's astonishing.

https://bigthink.com/starts-with-a-b...many-galaxies/

When I think about all of that out there and how great the distances are between bodies, how could there not be life somewhere else?

If humanity is around in 200 years, its going to be test tube babies grown in government labs, or even more scary to think about, private labs. If society does exist, i imagine it will lack any individual sovereignty at that point as well. the USA is about to experience their Coup de Grăs(which affects all our allies, alliances are going to be rewritten in the eyes of the new superpower), Chinese influence is only going to grow from here, the values and ideals we hold so self evident aren't going to be as prevalent amongst the world theater in coming years.

People don't realize, many have already paid to give away their genetic sequencing. These ancestry websites are going to own the genetic replicas of their participants in 50-100 years or sell that information to someone who will.
Its bad enough the private sector owns most of the genetics to our food supply, imagine when they figure out how to utilize MRna vaccines better to genetically resequence diseases or birth defective illnesses. Society will be at their mercy for life.
I seriously doubt the future holds a utopia for most, people have been stripped of freedoms continuously in the name of public safety since my birth. I can only imagine this cancer grows with age until the matrix is formed. People are so blissfully unaware as it is, and it's just getting started.

This VR crap is next level.

Humanity is screwed IMO. Elon is getting shit rich off of selling hope though which I find absolutely hilarious. Snake oil at its finest. Papa Elons going to save humanity they say

Dudes going to build a bunker to save himself when the world ends and laugh at all the morons who thought he was bringing them with him is my guess.
Have you ever read the "selfish gene", eventually, disabilities, diseases etc will be removed from the genetic lines of humanity, individualism will also be eroded, ultimately we will all look the same, food will no longer exist and we will just take a tablet to survive. This progression will continue until yes.....we all look like aliens, gender neutral.

I believe they will communicate via Android not Apple! Therefore, I check my phone constantly awaiting their call to board the Mother Ship!

Maybe they will arrive with the answer to perpetual green EV transportation. Or maybe they gave up on that idea along time ago and arrive here using some other power source like aneutronic fusion.

The idea that an advanced civilization from one of an infinite number of stars with an infinite number of planets would somehow choose Earth as a destination for drive-by exploration is pretty much unthinkable. Plus, they would somehow have to figure out a way around point to point travel, even if they could approach the speed of light, in order to make the benefits of the trip worthwhile timewise.

Always get a chuckle from the folks who answer your questions by saying, "Well, they're so advanced, they'll have already solved those problem".

The aliens are on the same wait list we’re on. That’s why they keep coming back. They want an update on what’s going on.

I have not yet participated in this thread.

But to me, to think about how infinite space is...seems pretty egotistical to think that we are the only lifeforms capable of space travel and/or have abilities that we do not have.

I did not make that up, btw. Stephen Hawking stated something like that, and I just adopted it, as it makes sense to me.

Well there either is other beings/entities out there or there isn't.

And if there is, do they have the tech to travel at the speed of light, or through some worm hole or something else.

If there are these entities out there and they came here, either they'd try to kill us or we'd try to kill them as we have a history of doing. We can't even get along with our own species.

Bottom line, I ain't gonna spend much time worry about it either way.
