Current Discounts - buying on a cruise

Hi all,

On a cruise. They have a Super Ocean 36 my wife likes.

MSRP $3600
They are offerings Offer $3300 no tax.

What kind of real world discounts are you seeing?

I am trying to get 30% off MSRP

I would think that you could do better once you are off the boat. A discount of less than 10% on that watch is not a great deal. No tax might add another 6-10% but you should be able to do better once you return home!

Yep - thats what I told them. Kinda of foolish for them because once I am gone there is no chance if a sale. I can always buy the watch.

Good luck - Breitling new watch discounts are drying up, in line with the Corporate strategy to manage distribution. The past two years I have seen local AD discounts steadily decline and now they're no more than 5%. If you know you can get 10% when you get home, then go for it. If you have compared prices online for that specific model, you will figure out if the one you have found is or is not the best one for your wife. Best of luck to you.

Not gonna get 30%. I just came back from Caribbean cruise. The Port AD's (most are owned by Little Switzerland including the Breitling Boutiques) would not discount any watches.. I got my best deal on the Cruise Ship where they apparently are not affected by the no discount directives. Got 20% off my Superocean 44 OuterKnown on the ship - no tax or duty. Just last August I got an Omega Speedmaster 38mm at Little Switzerland for 15% discount .. so times have changed very quickly .

Keep in mind Cruise discounts are biggest on last day night of cruise.

Ended up not buying.

Best price was 10% off, no tax and free bottle of Macallen Scotch.

Not a horrible deal, but it was nice to have watch for my wife, not one she had to have so we passed.

Found a few online spots with a 25% discount that they would not match. It was fun trying, but on to the next.............

Call Richard Wells at Saltzman Watches in Newport RI. You will get a fair discount and no tax outside of RI.

I assume 25% off was grey market without Breitling warranty or papers? Cruise ships are authorized dealers.

Definitely do not buy from shops on Rcl royal carribean. They flag every High spend purchase sold on board and take your passport and escort you to customs in a group. This happens even if you declare. Awful system and bought many watches in carribean but always in port and never had a problem. Typically even when you declare they still wave you through.

Port Side AD warned of that .. but I did not have that issue on MSC ..

Was this recent? Ive never seen this on RC or any cruise line. I will be on the look out for it next time I cruise though.
