116000 Review-
It is tempting to think that bigger is better, and that if it costs more, it certainly has to be better.
I recently acquired a 116000 from a great seller here on TRF. The watch featured a logo'd Rolex dial. After a few calls to Rolex I developed a pretty good understanding of the process by which companies and organizations have their watches made for them. I thought the original Rolex dial was both cool and unique, but on my wrist the dial made it difficult to quickly see the time. In considering a dial swap, from my discussions with Rolex I learned that as the watch was less than two years old, I would first need to wait until the watch was two years old. At that point I could have the watch serviced, and they would swap the dial. In short, this was going to be a long and expensive process. I also probably wouldn't have the option of keeping the logo'd dial, which I really wanted to keep so that I could bring the watch back to the way it was should I desire. It was this that led me to begin my search for an OEM replacement dial. I was fortunate enough to find two OEM dials for my watch, so, I bought them both. :) It was the black dial that I preferred and so... after a trip to the watchmaker.... As somebody that remembered how much the AD wanted me to take the 14060 off of his hands instead of the (at the time) much more desirable 16610, I get that if its got a date and it costs more it has to be better. Why has the 14060 become so popular? Beats me. If I were to guess I would say that that there is something that is pleasing about the appearance of a date-less dial. in the case of the 116000, perfectly symmetrical, the dial without cyclops or date allows for bold off-setting arabic numbers on both the top and bottom, as well as on either side of the dial. The concentric rings add to the symmetry of the dial. The white text that circles the dial and the bold numbers are both bold and understated. I wont go on about the bracelet, as much has been said of the new design with updated clasp. In short, I love this watch. Aside from the Air King, I believe this to be one of the least expensive watches that Rolex sells. It certainly doesn't feel that way on my wrist. Sometimes less is more. The traditional Datejust size looks great in a watch with dateless dial. This one feels like a keeper!

I still love this watch. Maybe even more than Rolex does based on how hard it is to find them on their website. ;).
