5524 prices are way down lately.

Doesn't stop me from wanting one, obviously. But still, I really hate speculative bubbles -- even small localized ones.

I hope that’s true! Do you think down to and below MSRP like the 5524 is, in time? Personally I’m hoping, then they’d be obtainable and decent price, the current price is outrageous!

Also any comparison in how it wears compared to 5524? I love the size of 5524 and worry this is too small for me at 40mm.

I love these sorts of comments. What did ‘someone’ say about RM prices softening?

To be fair I would assume the market is still working on the ‘used’ price level based on demand and supply, the piece is still pretty new and in a slightly different in demand segment for a Patek - that price level might be below list, it might be above list, as always, buy because you love it!

It's not even a steel sports watch!

Inefficient markets are, well, inefficient.

That they are! I grabbed one as a result. It's a killer watch IMO.

My 5212 finally arrived today - and I immediately switched to the 5712 strap and deployant that I got at the Geneva Salon.

(I'm a bad boy .... 2 watches in a week!)

I gots no skin in the game... I’m just passing along what someone I respect said... and that someone is in the know. Lol... it is still at a premium. Just coming down that’s all.

The RM’s coming down too, like John said it might fall a lot after the holidays.

Yeah the watches are being delivered and the flippers are flipping with 70% premium.
Not sure Patek will ever control this behaviour...

why should PP want to control this? it contributes significantly to their aura.

You don't think PP takes a dim view of flipping and tries to control it?

I think Patek is very happy a calatrava is selling over retail on the secondary market for the first time in years!

I think people underestimate how important the secondary market is for these brands...the higher it trades on the secondary... the more demand there is. Real time feedback which allows them to alter their selling strategy and also potentially the designs.

Being happy a piece is popular and selling above retail does not exclude wanting to stop flippers - stopping flippers will actually drive the price even higher on the secondary.

honestly, i think TS's talk against flipping is empty like the eggs we use for easter tree decoration. flipping takes nothing away from PP and as i said the high grey market prices contribute to their aura.

Here's the 5212 with the 5172 strap and deployant.

(As mentioned above in case some people missed it, the 5712 strap is easily available at Geneva Salon - they won't let me order in Hong Kong through my AD.)

Looks awesome. The 5172 strap fits it quite well. What is the strap size for the 5212? 21x16?

ps: some ADs do mind flipping (typically those that don't do it themselves) because it makes them look bad infront of their customers, others do not care at all and happily sell to greys.

I sold a 5167 about 8 months after I got it to WF. As a seperate discussion Rhone phoned my AD to ask why I had sold it so soon. They pointed out it was replaced by xxx and xxxx. They do monitor or it could just be because i am a bit sleazy

Nope. The AD phoned me to ask following a call from Rhone. Also it wasnt as though the watch was sold after a week...was a fair length of time. One theory is they are able to monitor the time between registrations and have a time threshold.

I know for a fact that they do employ phantom shoppers who look for watches (greys in particular) to see where they are sourced. Maybe there.
