Submariner 16800 matte dial with W/Gold markers now complete.

I purchased an old transitional 16800 about 12 months ago. It was in a sorry state. It had lumps of weld hanging off it, the bezel had come off, crown & tube bent, etc. I did get it running before, but it needed a bit more TLC so it went to a AD and many £'s later, here it is. Rolex would not supply another mattte dial either with W/G markers or without, so the origianl has been refitted. It has some ageing, but better than changing to a gloss one. (it actually looks better than the pictures suggest)
Its had a service, new tube, stem, button, glass, bezel insert, bezel spring, rotor post and a polish and maybe more. The bracelet is beyond repair. Hope you like it!

Some of the older Glossy dials with the WG surrounds turned to almost a matte finish due a failure with the paint on the dial, hence the reason the dial looks as it does. Looks great IMO, enjoy it!

Hi, The dial is original and has not been altered in any way. I am led to believe that it is pretty uncommon to have wg surrounds on a matte.

Hi Scott, Thanks! I did have this conversation with the actual watch maker who worked on the watch to see his opinion. He was happy that it is a matte dial and not a faded gloss one. I expect someone will know if they did make one? Cheers, Jeff.
