I've always thought that those logo accessories were the apotheosis of tacky.

Maybe good taste is making a comeback.

And "dreams becoming a reality."

I can't tell you how good it feels to have purchased to Rolex watches in 2 months. Granted, it will be many more before I do it again (maybe?), but true and fine craftsmanship will never be outmatched.

I think that designer handbags/leather goods and luxury watches are purchased for very similar reasons. At least in my house they are. I can buy a Rolex watch, enjoy it for several years and get most of my money back if I decide to sell it. My wife can buy a LV hand bag, enjoy it for several years and if she decides to sell it, get most of her money back.

To me enjoyment is the primary motivation and value retention is secondary.

Every time that I go into Saks and wander past the LV or Chanel areas there is always people shopping in there and I see lots of LV shopping bags around the mall.

I think that the classics will always be classics and command premium prices if properly cared for.

I have always avoided trendy items with big brand names plastered all over them.
If the quality of the item doesn't speak for itself it's not worth having.
That said, lots of people feel they need a brand name to speak for them and that seems unlikely to change, so the trendy brands are pretty safe.

I have never bought into luxury fashion brands. I keep my wardrobe pretty simple and for me it's all about fit. The only thing I could see spending some money on is a decent suit and dress shoes but I don't wear those often.

How much better is the leather on a $2,000 Chanel handbag over something that is $100-200?

Unless you bought the 200 bag in an open air market in Florence, much much better. Still largely paying for brand but no question they use higher end leathers.

In terms of the article, I think this is old news. The expensive bags at LV aren't covered in LV logos. Although I think the LV monogram will always be in style, I find it's often a LV buyers first purchase then they move on to the unbranded lines.

Here ya go, gents.

Definition of APOTHEOSIS

1: elevation to divine status : deification

2: the perfect example : quintessence <this is the literary apotheosis of the shaggy dog story — Thomas Sutcliffe>

My wife bought three handbags for 100 Euro at the seaside market in Ventimiglia.

They have held up as well as anything she has from Channel, LV or Kors.

Yeah, I was in a Chipotle yesterday and saw this lady with a huge LV bag that was custom painted with palm trees or some shit... She also had an LV iphone cover that she was waving about hoping people noticed it I assume. Also wearing her D&G sunglasses indoors. Normally, I would think to myself "is all that genuine product?" but my brain went instead to just "Yep, that's trashy."
