One counselor to another, I love my TT GMT. I have some great SS pieces, too, but my TT GMT is my favorite watch. That may change when I get my YG Day Date (been waiting a few months now) but I was totally on the fence when I got the TT GMT. But, the night I brought it home and felt the weight, I was hooked. Honestly, I get the most compliments on it, even more so than my Batman, Hulk and black Sub.

I think the increase in popularity of TT sport models is two-fold: 1) the TT look was an eighties look that has now moved to a more popular fashion look and 2) the large increase in the price of stainless sport models in the aftermarket relative to the TT in the same model has made the TT more attractive from an economic perspective. I bought a new TT Daytona in May, my first TT watch. It is priced in the aftermarket less than stainless, which is difficult to understand.

TT on sports vs dress watches
I always thought the opposite. I love the Bluesy. It’s one of my favorite all time watches. However, I think it’s definitely more sporty or casual than dressy.
I wouldn’t categorize TT Datejusts as being more dressy either, but I’m not a fan of those anyway… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks to all that offered commentary. My goal was to see if this was a school of thought albeit a small one.

TT Daytona w black dial is currently my favorite watch. The weight is fantastic and it has just the right amount of flash. It’s a really fun piece.

For many years my small collection was all SS Rolex models. Couple weeks ago I bought my first TT Rolex. Man, I am happy I did! I love the SS watches, but there is something about having some gold that is difficult to describe. Would highly recommend add some gold to the collection. Doesn't matter which TT model, they all look good.

PL1.......Are you talking yourself into a TT due to the unavailability of SS or other metals....?
For dress, subtle, elegant, classy, leather strapped, PM, would be the best direction, IMO. |

Interesting, the bitter debate of the use of gold in precious sports models.
The real answer doesn't lie in the myopic, overwhelmingly steel only views of TRF--a tiny minuscule fraction of the total watch buying public. No, the truth of the matter is that if there wasn't a market for TT and PM sports watches, Rolex wouldn't make them. Now, having said all that: buy what you like. If you ask us, well...you see what you get. |

TT for classic models only for me. TT in sports / tool watch kind of defeats the object IMO, based on how I prefer to wear mine.

I would avoid TT in a sports watch at all costs personally. I think your idea to keep it to a DJ/dressier watch is more fitting.

Depends. There is some justification for all IMO. Sport watches have a charm due to history and have a style of their own, but for 99% let’s not kid ourselves, they are not being used as intended. Watches are the coolest form of jewelry IMO and as such…
Sub is all too common. A TT is a bit different and more luxurious. Rolex watches are luxury items with sport capabilities. Nothing wrong with that. 5 dig or older with TT is odd to me. Otherwise modern is fine TT. GMT is cosmopolitan watch. Even in its day, a full gold or TT was appropriate as it is today. Dressy TT has and will always be appropriate. But it is dressy and not as versatile (though depending on the config, still versatile enough). If you want a sub TT, I’d personally take that over a DJ TT as it is more appealing to me. But just my opinion of course. |

Well, none of those is a dress watch.
You're right that TT is wrong on sports watches. Its also wrong on dress watches. And other watches too.

I've owned TT sports models but somehow they don't look quite right, definitely more suited to the DJ and SkyD in my opinion

IMO TT Bluesy is the only TT Rolex, I have absolutely no interest in any other TT model.
