It’s not a hype, it’s THE SUB ;-)
In your case, having a diver like the DeepSea fills that gap to some extent.

I have a DSSD JC. So far anyway, my new LVc, which I absolutely love, never sees the light of day. The DSSD JC could be the only watch I need.

The Sub is not a a hype. It is just beautifully made watch. Do you need one - perhaps, is crucial to have one - absolutely not. Still I have 3 (2 × five digits and 1 × six digits) and I am looking forward to add the 126610LV because I know that I will enjoy it.

GMT for diversity. Sub if you just want to compare with your DSSD.

You have two great watches, but need a third

Nothing beats a (non date) Sub

Not sure if a so called hype is the right reason to get a watch. I bought mine because I couldn't find a better looking watch than that.

I was pleasantly surprised when I tried on a Bluesy a few weeks ago...I thought it would wear larger than it does.

That said, I don't think i'd ever buy one. I don't need it for diving and the other Oyster cases are plenty water-resistant for me.

Let me know your thoughts.
Do you really need a watch? The answer is no, it's an old-fashioned object these days because we have time everywhere, quickly, and easily. Then you need even less a Submariner. The question is elsewhere!!
To answer it anyway, the DateJust is a more dressed and classic watch so it is more complementary, and the Deepsea I find it too thick, by far the finesse, comfort and versatility of the Sub.
For the hype, to each his own way of seeing things, do not care and wear what you want...

Consider a Tudor Black Bay '58 it's a great watch in either black or blue!

I have a Rolex 16600. And tbh it‘s all you need (reduce to the max).
