White gold VS Rose gold Day Date 40

Dear members of the TRF community,

After years of collecting, during which I was blessed to have acquired the Hulk, GMT's in steel (Pepsi and TT Rootbeer), and the Skydweller in both white and blue. Now, I am now considering adding the President to my collection.

Initially, I was set on getting the white gold version. However, after comparing both the rose gold and white gold in person at my local AD, I am now undecided. Although the AD did not have the Day dates with the olive dial that I prefer, the comparison of the metals was still helpful.

Based on my skin tone, I feel that the white gold would make a more noticeable statement, which is something I prefer to avoid. As a result, I am leaning towards the rose gold with the olive dial instead of the white gold with the olive dial.

I would love to hear your opinions on this matter!

I know you want to be more understated — but that WG blue dial looks absolutely epic on you. That’s what I would do :)

White gold would be more understated because it’s so close to SS.
Rose gold jumps off the arm and sings I’m a Rolex!

Have you tried YG with black dial? I think it would look good on your skin tone.
But understating is the least factor I would consider when buying a DD. Because no matter what you choose DD is never understating

White gold does not make a statement on anyone. It’s stealth.

I disagree.
WG looks epic not because it's WG but because of its blue dial.
YG or RG with green/olive dial will be more epic.

At this price point it better “scream” to you which one is absolutely THE one. If none does then pass and keep looking. This is not a watch to compromise with because it may be currently available.

The RG is gorgeous and is much more opulent than the WG and the lighting does not do the WG DD any justice as in different lighting it is stunning. I think if they made the blue dial with baguettes it would be out of this world. Good luck on your choice but agree with the other poster..........make damn sure you love it.

So here's an unpopular take. I love...I LOVE and ADORE Rolex rose gold. It's stunning.

BUT

On a day date? It looks all wrong. The day date is just too formal I think? It needs to be white gold or yellow gold.

I’ve owned the wg blue and wg olive. I know it’s popular, but the blue is nuts. I’d pick that for your tone

No RG for me, the WG looks good on you. Personally I prefer YG DD.

Both look good. The RG sort of blends into your skin tone for a monotone look if that’s what you’re looking for. The WG does pop more just due to the greater contrast.

Before you buy either, I’d at least try on a YG DD. IMO, it’s the DD…but it’s not for everyone and might be a lot more flash than you’re looking for.

The contrast of the WG with your skin tone makes it look more noticeable to me. The RG seems more subdued on you despite it being gold, so my vote goes there.

I think the choice here should be between the WG and YG version.

WG looks very nice.

Definitely an unpopular one. Day date is still considered a sport watch from what I've read here in the forums. It's just more dressy.

Formal to me are on a strap and many are offered in rose gold.

I would go WG but as someone else said, don't dismiss the YG versions. Could work for you to.

The WG is the one. Blue or green dial. The RG is not my favorite.

RG looks more subtle on you. WG looks more noticeable.

WG looks more subtle. More skin contrast, but less “I’m an all gold Rolex” statement if you are concerned about that.

Also the earth hues on the RG always to be look like a wall of rose/pink and too much for me in 40mm.

For your skin tone the white gold works better. I'd still like to see a YG piece tho.
