SLA037J1 Accuracy question?

I'm very interested in a SLA037J1 but the +15/-10 seconds per day is bothering me. Gaining almost 8 minutes a months or losing 5 minutes seems excessive.

Can an owner please comment.

I think the accuracy ratings for Seiko are very conservative. Most report much better than what is stated, however if you are unlucky to get -10/+15 seconds a day, it's actually within Seiko's specs and they won't cover it under warranty as far as I know.

Really you need to understand what your variation from day to day is. Whatever that variation is, the watch can be regulated to hit a nominal of that variation.

I am somewhat relaxed about accuracy. If my watch is off, I reset it. Unless it is obvious and needs repair.

Odds are it’ll gain 2-8 a day.

Yeah, this has been my experience. Calibers 8L55 and 8L35 usually perform way better than the -10/+15 threshold.

Mine is about plus 5 seconds a day. No issues.

I have owned 5 8l35's. They were all around +15.

My 37 year old 6309-7290 loses an average of 10 seconds a day. Not bad for a watch selling in the 200-300 dollar range on the second hand market.

I think you have to be realistic for the price point.

I have the turtle and its 8-11 per day. I mean i just sync it to automatic time once a week, not a big deal. Given I am a get to a place ahead of time anyway kind of person, its not a big deal. I mean i put the watch on and just pull the crown out for a few seconds right before you put it on. Either way, not a big deal.

I bought mine simply for looks. We have phones on us all the time so I don't really use watch for time telling anyways.

8L55 is adjusted for lower accuracy (the GS variation is +4/-2) so I know some owners take them to watch repairers and adjust for better accuracy.

Mine is about +8/day FYI.

I've 2 8L55 movements, one in the SLA037 and another in the SLA039.

One gains 6 sec per day the other gains 11 sec per day. To me they are annoyingly inaccurate for the price range. But the pieces themselves are absolute stunners.

^ that is within regulation range. Seiko high beats are great solid movements, but not as accurate as other makers.
